I’m looking for any input or experience you’ve had with these pickups

I bought a 2nd generation Fishman banjo pickup 4 months ago. Had my mechanic install it. It did not work out of the box . He ran some tests with Fishman tech and they determined it was defective. Returned and they sent me a replacement.

Mechanic installed it. Worked great for a few hours of use and it died. Not the battery and no short in the connections

Could I have a bad lot in the last few months?

I Have worked with the same mechanic for 20 years and do not suspect any install issues

Next big question ... do I get replacement or move onto another product and if so please give me your product suggestions????

Thanks

Fishman magnetic?

1.  Double check to make sure the metal shim is firmly attached to the head (many of these have been installed by placing the shim directly under the 5th string side bridge foot, which removes all the dicey mounting issues).

2.  Double check the gap between the magnetic pickup head and the shim.  You really want the clearance to be set so a business card just slips in without dragging.

If the pickup mount slips even a tiny bit or if your head slacks then it will seriously effect output level.

Hey Rudy thank you

I’ll show your response to the luthier

I’m thinking the odds are slim that I have two defects back to back right??

Waiting to hear from Fishman on Monday
