My standard I - V7 passes in jazz are - in the key of Bb:
I Bb - I Bb Bo I Cm F7 I
I Bb - I Bb Bbo I Cm7 F7 I
I Bb - I Bb Gm7 I C7 F7 I
When playing "The Sheik" back in the days I normally used the first for comping - and the second for soloing.

Dave, if you play the melody as written, the Bdim works fine with the melody note F ...... but the melody note F, is commonly substituted by an A, where the Bbdim sounds great!.In ''The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise'' the second chord written in the key of C, is a Cdim/A ... . but is commonly played as Gaug7/A, these examples happen a lot.To be fair, we should obviously respect the composers choice of chords written, but in some cases as in the above, we can bend the rules a little I reckon!!!. Our ears have the final say on this one.I've attached a photo f'those who might need it. ..... Don. ps. to enlarge photo, right click, and then left click, ''open link in new window'' ....
