Having fun with electricity this morning before the power goes out. Big snows coming tomorrow, as for millions of others. Power goes out here often......even without heavy snow. I'm looking forward to it actually.....I'm going to wax my skiis this afternoon. Let it snow! Have a good weekend you guys.

Beautiful rendition of "Summertime," David. I loved it. Enjoy the winter wonderland. I've lived in California for a long time now, but as a native Pennsylvanian, I sure miss the change of seasons.

A little early to be dreaming about Summertime isn't it David? Nice version. I think this would be a good tune of the month sometime.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard anyone refer to waxing their skis!

I was an impoverished college undergraduate when I got my first pair of cross-country skis—they were Army surplus (from Jax in Fort Collins, Colorado).  I stripped them, refinished, then laid in a base of pitch (smelly and messy but necessary for the wax to adhere) and installed Silvretta bindings.

This was the same year that the drifts from the spring (1968) blizzard reached the second floor windows of Hill Hall on the University of Wyoming campus.

Thanks John, Thanks Mike. I love the change of seasons too John, and I'm going to enjoy this snow.

It's actually been 2 yrs since I waxed my xcross skiis Russ. I've gone over to waxless. It's just a lot easier, having to change wax for all the temp changes. It is a lot faster when the wax is just right....but too inconvenient for me. I just like being in the woods, on the snow, and I'm going nowhere fast.

and I've got 50 miles of groomed track out my back door.....really pretty country.

You're gunna get a good one up there! Pretty jealous. Mostly going to be rain and ice down here. You're going to have a fun weekend!

Yeah Jeff! I can’t wait

David, before my stupid disease, I loved cross country skiing with the camera and small tripod. I’m pretty confined inside now. I sure miss it a lot

I’m sorry to hear that Bruce...what kind of disease do you have?

Dave, you get a very original sound out of your tg: I love that and your phrasing, of course! Unluckily there's no snow here around...I don't care too much, cause I've put on my skis in 1965, the last time!

Copd and cancer. They say I’m comorbid. Sounds scary, but what the hell. It really has put a damper on my outdoor stuff. Thanks for asking though

youtube.com/watch?v=hAbyRmf3sRIHere's some snow for you Marco.....a foot finally fell last night, and 3-5 more this morning. I can't ski today though, dangerous cold temps today, with much wind. Tomorrow I ski !

yeoldbanjoguy - Posted - 01/20/2019:  08:02:43

Got about 1 foot here too David. Mums too little to run the snowblower. I’m gonna have to call for reinforcements. Have fun skiing dude!

Wow! What a beautiful sight! Thank you for posting that, David, it reminds me of my childhood growing up back there. I heard about the dangerously cold temps and wind on the news, so definitely be careful. But it sure looks gorgeous. It reminds me of when I was a kid and it would snow like that, my sister and I would be huddled around the radio listening to the news and hoping to hear that school was cancelled! Joyful memories...

davidcava - Posted - 01/20/2019:  13:36:39

Yeah Bruce, hire some kid to help you. Took me a couple hrs to snow blow and shovel.

We have the same memories John!....I remember listening for the radio school closings too, hoping for the day to play in it.

yeoldbanjoguy - Posted - 01/20/2019:  15:36:25

What a great day it was when the radio would mention your school being cancelled! All of a sudden, your energy level jumped through the roof

Finally....I got out on my skis. After the wicked cold, it rained for pretty much 2 days, but there's still a half foot on the ground. Sorry for the poor cinema work. I stuck a camera in my hat, and started off, but it's really shaky. A nice little stand of white birch, my favorite tree. This is restored railroad bed, for biking, hiking and skiing. Nothing motorized allowed. 50 miles of groomed track.

FlyinEagle - Posted - 01/25/2019:  13:27:03

That is really cool David. That is something I’ve never had a chance to do and I’m pretty sure it is something I’ll enjoy. Haven’t got much snow down here in recent years, and it when it does snow it’s usually gone pretty quick.

johnstephen - Posted - 01/25/2019:  13:38:57

Beautiful, David! That did wonders for my soul. Very nostalgic for me. Looks like tracks had been laid for cross country. Out here in California it's a "frosty" 62 degrees and people here complain that it's cold. Sheesh....

davidcava - Posted - 01/25/2019:  14:42:08

You'd love it Jeff, I'm sure.....it's just quiet nature.

Glad it brought back some good memories John. The forest service drags a track setter behind a snow machine, and it makes it so much easier than setting your own track.
