Friends, I am not a regular around here anymore but if I have a home it would be this forum with the many wonderful players and especially the jazz cats! I always love this time of year and the music that goes with it, so here is a little bit of I'll be home for Christmas, wishing you all the best of the season!

Merry Christmas Laurence, Doub.

That was a beautiful, special arrangement Laurence, and I loved it. Great job Doub, one of my favorites, and thanks for the lesson on it.

Salute,
David

Thanks David! Everyone should feel free to post their own Christmas tune here! I might have one more.

Sounds good to me Laurence, post one a day! I hope everyone fills this thread up this day forward until Christmas. That would be very cool. I'll post a couple more for sure. Doub, a couple more ? Everybody? Carrie, more? Everyone?

This is great. Thank you Lawrence.

I've had this piece on my mind a lot this year...I keep hearing it. These bluesy/jazzy Christmas songs are the only ones I really like. I just started working on Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas...it's pretty basic compared to this but it's stretching me out of my Scruggs comfort zone, which is a good thing.

Thanks Don, for the warm welcome, hope you have a nice holiday (no white Christmas for you though, I'm sure)!

Out of a Christmas Book this morning.

Laurence Diehl - Posted - 12/09/2018:  10:28:34

Loved it! You took that one to a new level David.

davidcava - Posted - 12/09/2018:  10:57:38

You're very kind Laurence. I made a mistake in the explanation...when I said C#7, it should be C#dim......so keep that in mind tenors!

Merry Christmas, Laurence, and thanks for all your fine posts.

Anyone else want to contribute?

davidcava - Posted - 12/10/2018:  16:27:42

I wish people would post more too Laurence, but doesn't seem to be happening. I was reading this song pretty much out of the Real Christmas book, made some melody errors though. Some nice changes in that book. I'd love to hear your version of it. I'm going to try to post one a day until Christmas.

Fud - Posted - 12/10/2018:  16:52:08

I don't play this style of music. However, I would listen to Mr. Diehl any time, any where. And thank all who are posting. Have a terrific holiday season.

Okay buddy, I am down! It will be like our very own advent calender - with banjo tunes instead of chocolate! I have maybe 4 more I can post - and maybe we can still get some of the gang to contribute. I'm sure Eddy's got some...

Omeboy - Posted - 12/10/2018:  17:58:20

This is my second and last entry, Here Comes Santa Claus. I recorded this a few years ago and kept it for some reason.  When I first did it, I was okay with it, but now it's tough to listen to----too many sleigh bells maybe.

yeoldbanjoguy - Posted - 12/10/2018:  18:25:22

I don’t have anything to contribute, but you guys are just fantastic! That o holy night is too sweet

I dig it Paul - just the right amount of sleigh bells! Thanks for posting!

Nice David! I have one of those santa dolls that sings that song, but you do it so much better. Nice chords on these holiday tunes eh?

davidcava - Posted - 12/11/2018:  09:53:31

Yes sir.......great chords in all these songs

Laurence Diehl - Posted - 12/12/2018:  06:13:55

Here is a collaboration I did with another player here back in 2009 - when there was a bit more going on here. I still like this!

davidcava - Posted - 12/12/2018:  06:25:18

You guys should be getting royalties from Christmas Radio with that one Laurence.

Very cool - love the backdrop! Yeah, I'm still waiting for my check...

What kind of Gibson is that?

davidcava - Posted - 12/12/2018:  09:14:17

Julia and I put our tree up this past weekend, so I thought I'd show it off a little!

I'm sure the check is in the mail Laurence....

This banjo is an original (except the tuners) 1928 TB-6 that I just got together here in the last couple weeks. I thought I'd better scoop it up, before the Bluegrass guys had a chance to change it up.........

This is very nice! The 4-str and 5-str fit together really well in this arrangement! Thanks for posting this one.

Also takes a bit of the pressure off me and David - phew! Hope some others will post here as well.

I'm just restarting on the banjo journey (severe thumb pain put a stop to learning scruggs style). Last month I commenced teaching myself a modified clawhammer style (thumb remains bent).

Hope it's OK to share the work of others?

That was very cool Chris....that's quite the machine that guy is playing. Beautiful.

I'd love to hear your modified clawhammer some time too

This is an ancient carol from Ireland and was pointed out to me by my old Irish friend, PJ Curtis.
The twang on this track is in fact muted banjo (not sitar)
