Looks like some up picking and I don't know what all with a full complement of picks...

Reminds me of how lester picks his guitar. I wonder if he always picks like this all the time or does he know how to pick rolls and licks?

There are a number of videos on YT that focus on his right hand a bit. Not sure about the rolls and licks, but I think whatever he's doing works with the music. Seems like he's throwing in a lot of different things -- whatever works at the moment to get the sound/rhythm he's after.

To me, it seems like he is doing a strumming pattern as if he had a flat pick, the upstrokes with the index and downstrokes with the thumb and sometimes picking individual notes. I do this quite a bit when I am playing a strumming song. With a bit of practice, it is easy to play pretty quickly like this. I can easily switch back to Scruggs style if I want to. If I had Clawjam fingerpicks, I would add frailing into the mix, but I haven't saved up enough for them.

Thrashing.

Yeah, I agree with Mike--kind of reminds of how Pete Seeger would go from a strum to finger style playing. My former banjo teacher would call banjo players like that Boy Band wannabees. Meaning, if it wasn't Scruggs, or Reno or Eddie Adcock, it wasn't legit. But that may be a bit of a narrow point of view.
