I had a terrific time at the "All Frets Convention" in Buffalo. Did a workshop and got to play several fine banjos. Got there on Tuesday evening and had food with Mike and Dennis. Back at the hotel lobby got in a nice jam with Johnny and Lance and others. I got to play one of Dennis' Banjos. During the next 4 days I got to play David's banjo and wonderful Tenor Guitar, which I used for my workshop. Also got to play Roy Hill's banjo and I was very happy to get to play Kas' terrific "Rene" banjo, which I first played a few years ago in Louisville. Met lot's of old friends -- Did that nice session with good old friend that David put up a few days ago with Mike Vignola. We use to hang out a lot 40 or 50 years ago. "The Manhattan Minstrel" Eddy Davis playing and singing a tune introduced in the 1933 Musical Film "42nd Street" Recorded by Roy Smeck -- Boswell Sisters a the Andrew Sisters among others. Davis is playing his Custom OME 12' head - 17 fret neck Tenor Banjo. Eddy (I hope all made it home in good shape.)
Yes, I sure wouldn’t mind repeating those four days again. Had a great time meeting up with friends, some that I hadn’t seen since FIGA ‘95 in Toronto and some new friends that I just met for the first time in Buffalo. The concerts and after hours jam sessions were a blast for Mee!
So great to see Eddy and Ruth (especially Ruth) and to finally meet David who has also contributed so much to keep this form alive.
Great seeing you in Buffalo David. Sorry we didn't get to jam together. Hope you're able to make Springfield next year. Ernie, it was an amazing 4 days filled with new and old friends. Thanks for playing with me and then again with Johnny, Paul, and I. The afterglow Saturday night was one I'll never forget playing music with amazing players and dear friends. And finally Eddy, it was awesome to see you and Ruth and visit with you over the course of the convention. The jam Tuesday night when it got down to just you, Mike, Johnny, and I was one I'll never forget. The chance to play the music we love with 3 dear friends of many years was a blessing and was probably the highlight of the week for me. nothing against the other great jams I was in other nights. The one Tuesday just had a very laid back cool vibe and was very special for me. Hope to see everyone next year!
