I finally paid for the full version of TablEdit over the weekend and transcribed my first tab - a beginner arrangement of "Grandfather's Clock" I worked out a few months ago. It runs longer than it should, as I couldn't quite get the hang of inserting repeats and 1st and 2nd endings in the software. It didn't seem to work the way I expected it to so it's tabbed straight through from start to finish (some features have worked incredibly well and easy; others seem about as counter-intuitive as you could imagine). Has anyone here worked through those issues successfully and might be willing to impart a tip or two?

Thanks in advance! Mods, if this needs to be moved to a different section, please do so. I appreciate the help.

The easiest way to get repeats and 1st/2nd endings into the tab is to use the reading list.  MIDI -> Reading List.  This list will allow the tab to be played like a normal one with repeats and such, and will insert the proper marks at the proper locations.

You did download the pdf manual, right?

Hi Craig,

Yes, as per Banjo-Brad, use the "Reading List" function under MIDI on the top of screen menu.  This allows you to set up the repeats and will correctly put in the repeat marks into your score.  It works by you giving measure numbers - for example you might put in (1-15, 1-14, 16) this will play measures 1 to 15 and then 1 to 14 at which point it will jump to and play measure 16.  If you wish to take a look at how it is done you are welcome to download any of the tunes from my site and go to the Reading List to see how it is done - check over at:  stevemcwilliam.co.uk/guitar/tab.htm

Also have a go through some of the Online Tutorials - see over at:

Cheers, and enjoy.

Thanks, gentlemen. This will help a lot.

Funny thing about the manual - that PDF was among the files that were unpacked when I installed the free download, but when I paid the registration fee, the email that I thought would contain a license number to enter to unlock the free version, instead included a link to the "paid user" site where it said I needed to download again. Having been through many instances where a software "upgrade" caused problems if the old version wasn't uninstalled first, I deleted the free version and all of its files. When I installed the paid download, the manual wasn't among the files.

Just an update - it worked great, once I decided which measures to delete, and renumbered them so I could construct an accurate reading list. Thanks so much, guys. I now have my slightly-more-than-extreme-basic (barely intermediate?) arrangement of "Grandfather's Clock" completed. If the world thinks it needs another one, I'll be happy to look into uploading to the library here.
