This is a fascinating instrument. You're right the inlay is remarkable, but the pot is just bizarre - aluminum, I'd guess, clad in nickle or plated brass(?). And did Patrick “Doc” Huff see that frailing platform?

Tarnation! I like it.

That scalloped tension hoop is very Clifford Essex-ish.

I met Okie Adams back in the early 1970's when I lived in the L.A. area and was learning banjo and fiddle.  He showed me at least one of his banjos.

Yes, the pot was aluminum, made from some kind of aluminum pipe, he said, and it was HEAVY!!!

Two people who might know more about Okie Adams' banjos are Chuck Ericsson and Al Hart.  Both lived in L.A. at the time, and I met Okie through Al Hart.

Wow! Everything about this banjo is interesting. Crowdfunding starts here.

Before the ad expires or the banjo is sold I thought it would be best to save the photos and text. I am not selling this banjo so do not contact me if the ad is still up.

"This is The Best Banjo ever to come out of the shop of the late Okie Adams.

"Snuffy Smith" summarized Okie's life (and personality) This Banjo was his Favorite and Needs a good home.

I am letting it go to the right person, one that will love it and play it proudly.

Price is negotiable to that right person."

These are great banjos...Doc Watson used to play one back in the day...think Tom Sauber did too...rarer than hen's teeth now...

Okie was quite a character, used to make race car parts as well, died in 2007 in a house fire under somewhat mysterious circumstances...I'd snap that up in a minute if I had some spare cash...
