I am trying to tab out a triplet, this would be 3 notes in the space of a 1/4 note (1/12th notes?) followed by a two 1/4 notes and then two 1/8 notes.  Everytime I try it keeps puuting my 3 notes into the space of a 1/2 note. If I try to shorten the note in the triplet to 1/16 notes it just puts rests in.

Any Hints?

Put these three notes into the tab as if they were 16th note, 16th note, 8th note.

Then set the duration of each note to 8th note + triplet.

You can do it by the buttons or by the rolette menu Note: 1/8 Note AND Note: Triplet.

I see there are also these shortcuts: F7 for 1/8 Note, and Ctrl+3 for Triplet.

Thanks Mirek, I got it somehow, I am not sure how.  I am uploading Blue Spanish Eyes for another thread and it is the bar where the Cm chord starts if you want to look at it.

There's a command for triplets - if memory serves it's in the effects. Could be wrong on that, though. You essentially pit in 3 8th notes, click and drag over them, and flag them as a triplet. The software does the rest.

It's on the "Notes" palette - look for the little 3, OR pull down the "Notes" menu and choose "Triplet" OR, hold down the Ctrl key and press '3'. You have to select the three notes you want to make into a triplet first.

When entering triplets, use the "Tab" key to advance to the next note space. For example, select quarter note and click the triplet button. Enter the first note, then use the "Tab" key to advance to the next note space, enter it, then the "Tab" key again to advance to the next space and enter the third note.

There is a bug in TablEdit relating to quarter-note triplets. If you start a quarter-note triplet on the second beat of a 4/4 measure, for some reason TablEdit splits it out into a single note followed by two notes of an incomplete triplet. This does not happen when entering other than quarter-note triplets. Entering quarter-note triplets starting on the first or third beats of a measure works as it should. I reported this bug some time ago, but I just checked the latest version of TablEdit and the bug is still there.

But there is a work around. After entering a quarter-note triplet starting on the second beat, just highlight those two separate notes (shown as incomplete triplet) and drag them over to the first note and voila, the triplet will automatically complete.

See the attachment that shows the bug. Note in the second measure the triplet was started on the second beat of the measure and the notes got separated.

It's no biggie. Just can cause some confusion.

Mick - Have you reported this to the Tabledit Users Group on Yahoo? If you do, I'm sure it will get Matthieu's attention and get fixed.

Oops! I need to actually read the entire post before responding. But, I also know that some people seem to report bugs to the old user's site forums, and I think the new Yahoo group gets much more attention.

And, I do know Mathieu is busy, and sometimes takes a bit to get around to such things.
