I believe Matthieu has just released an ipad version (or maybe a beta version). Check the yahoo TablEdit group or the website. I've seen some traffic in the group about it...but as I don't have an ipad, I didn't pay much attention.

eagleisland - Posted - 01/01/2012:  12:06:17

Thanks for the pointer to the Yahoo group, Marc - didn't know it existed.  It looks like he's working on a TefView version but he didn't mention anything about full-on Tabledit.  That'd be something I'd love to get...

MoeBanjo - Posted - 01/02/2012:  04:07:32

Thanks for the head's up, Marc. Even having TEFview for the iPad will be a huge relief from having to convert TEFs to another format.

Just got an email from Keith at TablEdit - the Tef Viewer has been submitted to Apple and will be available as soon as they approve it.

I'd rather have the full app but at least it's a good start!

Hi,

Yes, I've submitted TEFview 1.0 for iOS last week (still in "Waiting for Review" state). It will be a free app.

If Apple accepts it, I have some plans for the next updates (e.g. the import of ABC, ASCII, Music XML files and the ability to save the resulting tef file)

Matthieu

eagleisland - Posted - 01/05/2012:  06:14:17

Mathieu - thanks so much for posting here.  Please let us know when the app is approved.

Do you have plans to build a TablEdit app - or will it strictly be TEFview for the foreseeable future?  I sure would like TablEdit on the iPad and would gladly pay for it.

eagleisland - Posted - 01/05/2012:  18:11:20

Hey, folks - just got word from Keith that TEFview for iPad is now alive.  I just downloaded it.

Gotta admit, it looks NOTHING like what we all know and love - it's going to take a little time to get used to it.  But good on Matthieu for getting it out there!

This is the best thing since sliced bread....    Works terrific.

Allows you to select from over 100 different instruments - Imports from iTunes with a simple drag and drop - Allows you to change the volume, the playback speed, different ways to display your TablEdit files - repeat or just play one time through - and it even has a metronome....

What more could you possibly want from a viewer.....

Well, since you asked.... instructions on how to use it.

I've been using TEFview for years and TablEdit for about six months, but I'm new to iPad and I'm having trouble understanding how to work with the TEFview app.  I guarantee I won't be the only one.

Hi,

There is a small help included in the app. Just tap the floating info button at the right top corner of the screen.

I would be grateful to see your comments and appreciations on the appStore ;-)

Thanks.

Matthieu

PS: a direct link to the iTune site itunes.apple.com/en/app/tefvie...mt=8&ls=1
PPS: this will be more than a viewer, just wait and see for the next update...

I have never used the original TefView - Purchased TablEdit right off the bat...

However, this App is obviously designed to be a viewer.   All the work is done on the PC (or in my case on an Apple) - When you plug the iPad in, go to iTunes, select your iPad under devices, next select Apps (so you can see the apps installed on your iPad) on the Apps page in iTfunes you will see that the bottom of the page is devoted to File Sharing - Select TEFView in the Apps under File Sharing and it will display all the documents installed in the TEFView folder on your iPad....   You can drag new tabs to the Documents box in iTunes or highlight documents and click delete to remove them.

On the iPad itself the controls are on the bottom of the screen (after you select a document) > means play the Tab that is displayed [ ] means repeat the Tab continuously 1-2-3 displays all the instruments supported by TEFView and allows you to control the volume.  Once the Tab is playing you'll see a selection bar at the bottom of the tab that allows you to control the speed the Tab is playing (slide it to the left to slow it down or to the right to speed it up), to the right of that is a clock that displays the length of the tune (in seconds) and the number of seconds that have expired followed by a dash which displays the beats per second of the tune and whether the tune is currently playing at 100 % of the speed designated in the TablEdit Tab you downloaded or some percentage higher or lower that you've selected in the speed control - to the right of digital clock/speed display is a gear that allows you to change the way the Tab is displayed (experiment with this to see what it does) and finally on the far right is the folder that contains all the Tabs you've downloaded from iTunes in alphabetical order....

Seems perfectly simple and mostly self explanatory to me....

My congratulations to Matthieu - you guys have done a wonderful job of giving us something very useful while leaving all the heavy lifting on the PC where it belongs.

Perfect in my opinion.

I have Tabledit on my pc to listen to the MIDI files as I see and learn tabs.   Will the Tefview  app for an iPad allow me to do the same, both listen to and see the tabulature?

Yes.

I haven't had as much time to play with it as I would have liked... question:  how does one turn off the standard notation so all that's left is the tab?  I can't seem to find the command for that - if there is one.

hstrawn - Posted - 01/15/2012:  08:42:58

EagleIsland,

Found that---go to the 'gear' icon and then select the first item in the second row of options there. My question is whether you can make this the default or not. Seems the default is standard and tab.

TablEdit - Posted - 01/17/2012:  16:42:32

hstrawn,

I wanted the option view to be without any localized text. So I've spent some time to design universal icons to show the choice between tab only, notation only, tab+notation.

It seems my efforts were not completely convincing ;-)

Anyway, the factory default is actually tab + notation. But you can change it.

The next tab you'll open will be displayed following your preferences, except if there are configuration info saved with with the file. In this case, which is not that rare, TEFview will respect the will of the "tableditor" for this tab only.

I've submitted a new update to Apple (1.1). I've implemented the import of ASCII tabs and ABC tunes by copy and paste. I've also added the support of MusicXML files. At last a filter is available in the file popover.

Or a TablEdit for Mac Lion, so that those who paid for it to use on their Macs using Leopard can continue to use what has become useless after the OS upgrade...

The current Tabledit for Mac, 2.78, works on any Intel Mac, including the Lion release.

Hi,

The Intel version has been released three months ago.

The upgrade is free for registered users as usual.

We have already experienced this kind of issues with the Pocket PC version.

Hi, Mattieu -

Let me suggest two locations where I know I'd be using it frequently.  One is in lessons; I'm already using the iPad frequently; it's much simpler than having to screw with a PC.  In that setting I could easily adapt a tab to make it easier for a student to play, or quickly write out a lick or phrase that the student wants to learn.  And I take lessons and masterclasses occasionally myself; being able to tab something out in a hurry would sure be nice.

The other location I'd use it is while traveling - which I do a lot.  It's be really nice to be able to work on tabs while in airports or crammed into a middle seat.  Laptops really don't lend themselves to that.

Obviously, it's your call.  But I sure would like to see it.

grumpy365 - Posted - 01/23/2012:  20:37:00

I just tried this and I can't get it to play sound. Has anyone had any luck?
I found some versions of " Sally Goodin" and can't get any volume.

Any suggestions?

eagleisland - Posted - 01/24/2012:  18:08:51

Check your volume settinngs. I just tried to open a BHO tab and found that it seems to default to no loudness at all.

pbachleda - Posted - 01/25/2012:  07:17:15

I am using Tefview on my Iphone and so there is limited screen space.  If a tab that I am playing has multiple instruments, how can I turn them off so that I can see more of the banjo tab on the screen?  I see that you can turn the volume of the other instruments off but can't figure out how to turn them off for viewing like you can on Tabledit.

Thanks!

TablEdit - Posted - 01/25/2012:  14:45:20

Hi,

First of all, I would say that I'm under the impression people don't really try out the app before asking.

Don't take me wrong, grumpy365 but did you check your ringer switch before considering TEFview is unable to play any sound? Curiously with the ringer switch on, you can still hear iPod music but there is no ringing and no sound with TEFview. The suggestion of eagleisland is worth to be considered too...

Regarding the ability to select given one track, pbachleda, rotate your device horizontally, you'll be able to scroll vertically and to select the desired instrument. The tuning becomes blue. Now rotate the device again and "voila". Please note you can also select any track in the view that appears when you press the track button.

Matthieu

PS to all: now that version 1.1 is available, what are your comments or queries ;-)

Hi,

I just submitted a new app to the AppStore.

TEFpad is an editor of TablEdit files (.tef format) designed for the iPad. Just like TEFview for iOS, the free file viewer, TEFpad opens, displays and plays all .tef files and imports many types of music files (ASCII tablatures, ABC files, XML Music, MIDI, Guitar Pro, PowerTab ...) as well.

In addition to this, TEFpad lets you create new tablature arrangements from scratch and edit the tablatures you have imported.

In the current light edition, you can save the first 16 measures of the existing files you have edited (like with TablEdit Demo). But the new files you have created with the iPad can be saved without any restriction.

Hi,

Generally the approval process takes 7-10 days.

Regarding the quick question about file transfer. There is a short help available in the application.

This help is also available on line: tabledit.com/ios/help_e.shtml

Have had a little time to muck around with it... Takes a little getting used to but I like, I like! It strikes me as more intuitive out of the box than tefview for iPad. It will take some getting used to but this will be a big asset when I'm teaching and on the road.

TablEdit - Posted - 04/20/2012:  12:28:01

Hi,

Thanks for the nice comment.

Maybe  TEFpad seems more intuitive because you are experienced with TEFview now ;-)

I'm really open to the suggestions and bug reports. I know there were some (minor) bugs: I've already fixed them but I sure didn't see everything.

Regarding future improvements I know the capo setting is missing.

One thing that seems awkward is scrolling through. Also, the one thing that really don't seem intuitive is the special effect control (slides, hammers, pulloffs etc.)... maybe on that one control a label of some sort in default view...?

All in all, Matthieu, this is great. Thank you again!!!!

Are there any plans for an android version of tabledit / tefview? I'm interested in this discussion on the ipad version. I have an android tablet and have recently started downloading pdf files of tablature which I've been viewing on the kindle app. I find tab to be a very tablet frienldly application sincethe tablet is a good size, can be propped on the arm of a chair or a music stand, and pages turned witha swipe which is much quicker thana paper page turn or next page on a laptop.
I haveused tabledit for a while now, and do read and play tabs right from the screen, but I usually Go to the print preview and size it to show everything on screen to do so.

I have the full Tabledit on my PC and the app on my iPod.

But I would love to have this on my android Xoom. Do you have plans for android?

TablEdit - Posted - 04/24/2012:  03:54:24

Hi,

To eagleisland: Thanks for the suggestion regarding the keyboard. It will be done with two dynamic buttons. Regarding the scrolling, it is constrained by the measure bounds. This is critical for editing.

Regarding the Android version of TEFview, we are working on it. Please don't ask for a release date. I don't want to be prisoned by any schedule. It doesn't mean we postpone it. Just consider what has been achieved within one year (the Mac Intel versions, the iOS programs).

Hi, I've used Tabledit on my computer for years and love it so when I aquired am Ipad I purchased it for the Ipad. I love it and use it a lot, usually by imputting ABCs of Irish tunes which are generally 2 part tunes of 8 bars each part. Just one one bugbear for me is that only 16 bars can be saved which means that 3, 4, or more part tunes cannot be saved and even with 2 part tunes I have to delete the ABCs of alternate last bars and also the intro notes at the beginning of the tunes - both a very common feature of Irish tunes. Is there any other way around this problem that I'm not seeing? I may be being a 'bit of a muppet' on this!

TablEdit - Posted - 04/28/2012:  07:45:42

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. A review on the AppStore would be the icing on the cake ;-)

I'm working a third app in the near future: TablEdit for iOS with no restriction. It will of course be not the same price as TEFpad, but about the price of an additional license. In the meantime I am still curious to see if TEFpad, that was so desperately requested, receives a lot of feedback as we only launched it a week ago ;-)

Hi,

And now TEFpad Pro is available as In-App purchase.

TEFpad Pro allows you to edit and save an existing or imported score. You can copy and paste without any limitation.

The other new features of TEFpad 1.2.1 are:

- Subdirectory management

- Playlist

- pdf export

- ability to change the background color

- MIDI file export

I just added the ability to print to any AirPrint printer. It will be featured in the 1.3 update.

I'm still having trouble with the audio on my iPad when I use TEF Pad. I checked the side switch (it is not muted) and changed the settings to 32 (polyphony), 2 (periods) and 64 (Period size) as recommended. The audio works properly for other programs such as iTunes, YouTube, videos, etc. Does anyone have any other ideas about how to fix the audio?
