I suddenly got an interest in jazz on 5-string. So I want to learn more about this style..

Does anybody have this book, who can tell me a little about it?
Or do you have any other usefull tips and tricks for jazzing a little on the banjo?

Hi Waldo-Welcome the the Hangout!
If you haven't already discovered this wonderful website:
bopjo.com/music.html you're in for a treat. Several BHO members are listed here as well as some phenominal banjo playing.

I have two books by Pat Cloud. The Key to the Five String Banjo, and the book your talking about, Straight Ahead Jazz for Banjo. Both are necessary, both interact and are completely different at the same time.

If your looking for the 10 minute lesson, forget it. These books are chock full of information. Learning page one by itself doesn't cover it for me, it has to tie in with several other pages, or the whole book in truth.

I have a completely different view of the banjo now. They're not just good for "Jazz" either. I am applying all of what I am learning to Bluegrass. But be ready to practice, and then practice some more. Somethings seemed impossible to me at first, but after sticking with it, it is becoming more natural.

Worth every penny for the books. Check out his website: patcloud.com He has some sample tunes you can hear, and a lot of other information there.

To take full advantage of the books, by my experiance, get a lesson now and then from Pat Cloud. He has corrected me more than one time. He is a very easy going person.
