Several of these double bars have appeared in a tab I created with Tabledit. How can I get rid of them?

trapdoor2 - Posted - 04/14/2010:  06:08:39

These seem to appear out of nowhere, don't they? Usually, I can get rid of them if I go into "endings and repeats" and make sure both the leading and trailing measures have "none" checked. They sometimes show up if I've added measures to the piece but those seem to remove themselves when I open TablEdit up again the next time.

Sorry, I'd love to hear a definitive answer myself!

Me too. They don't always disappear so if y'all got a solution I'd like to hear it.

Pinch,
Who are you is my first question. I don't like talking to avatars . The double bars usually mean that there is a key change or a time signature change. If you read the Tabledit tutorial which has been posted over and over, you'll easily learn how to remove the double bars...good luck though...Jack Baker NYC

I think, as Jack points out, that it depends on key changes and time signature changes. If you go to the Score menue you can change these settings.

It may also be good to look at the music notation together with the tab. The music notation reveals key changes and time signature changes better than the tab notation.

Well, that was helpful, Jack.

The tutorial doesn't address these odd appearances. If it does, please "show me". For my part, I ususally find that I've created the problem within the "reading list" by setting overlapping measures or something like that. These also appear sometimes when you cut & paste measures...but usually clear themselves when the piece is saved (hopefully), closed and then reopened.

I've been working with TablEdit for 10 yrs, the tutorial & manual teach you how to do things...but neither show you what happens when you make mistakes or how to recognise them.

For Marc & Pinch,
Marc, you've got a very charming way of putting things. The tutorial does address this problem. Read it again, but carefully this time...I know exactly what is going on. Altering the reading list does not always solve the problem. If the tab is mailed to me, I'll fix it and put a Text above the tab telling you how to do it. How's that for service Hoss? Happy Spring, Jack

Jack, I tried giving up 'charming' for lent but evidently only got it partially right. If you just can't come out and tell us where the tutorial points it out, I got other fish to fry.

You dislike talking to avatars, I dislike the "I know the answer but I'm not going to tell you" game. Machts nichts, wasn't my thread anyway.

Trap,
Our conversation is over. Get a grip and some manners bud. What I'm talking about is comlicated and I don't want to post it here. I asked you or Pinch to email me the tab so that I can point out what the problem is and make my explanation a whole lot easier. There are several reasons for double bars. Rudeness seems to be your game. I don't participate in "rude" games so adios tough guy...Jack Baker NYC

Hi Pinch,
I didn't mean to sound harsh about your avatar; just that most people put their real name on their page under their Avatar and it makes it more personal...

Send me the tab with the double bars and I'll try to show you how to get rid of this problem and others the correct way. There are mutiple reasons for double bars and such and that's why I'd rather not post a long winded explanation here...Jack

Hi Pinch,
Just returned from a gig in Ohio...Here's a very short note about how to rid youself of Double Bars...Jack Baker

I'm not sure why you have a double bars in certain measures, but you can get rid of them by placing the note cursor any where in the Double Bar measure, then from the "Edit" menu select "Insert --> Endings + Repeats". In the window that opens, remove the check mark from "|| Double".

To add measures to a score, right-click above the tablature in the last measure, then select "Insert Measures" from the context menu. You can add as many measures as you want. Also, after entering notes in the last measure, pressing the [TAB] key will add another measure at the end of the score.

Interesting, the double bars went away by themselves. After hiding the notation, closing the file, re-opening the file and re-displaying the notation the double bars were gone.

Hi Pinch,
Good, glad you worked it out. Your post is one of the many variables that also work--depending on how the double bars were entered. Now you know why I didn't want to go into complete details. I've worked closely with the inventor of Tabledit for many years and helped put in many of the effects that are now used in Tabledit.. I think it's still the best reading and writing program out there
