In case your looking at the banjo in this latest catalog...forget it! I ordered it and found that when you fingered it, the neck bent and it went waw-waw. Not the effect I was looking for LOL
But, Hammacher Schlemmer did take it back and did not charge me to return it.
Just some FYI from a new member who hopes to learn the banjo. says Phil

I think that instrument would make a great canoe paddle. Welcome to BHO

As a canoeist, I am insulted.

We were sent the catalog. I remember remarking to my wife that I was surprised H-S offered that cheap, preusumably Chinese, banjo at all because they proclaim the high quality of their merchandise. They don't sell cheap stuff and easily could have offered Gold Tone or Gold Star banjos in the $600+ range, providing customers with a useful and highly playable instrument.

My experience with them is they are a quality catalog. I have had good luck with them in the past. I spoke to a customer service rep and she waived the return charge and said she would forward my input up their food chain. says Phil
