Sound

She is designed for old-time music and clawhammer style of playing. Her voice is powerful & consistent across the spectrum -- clear notes, minimal overtones, and nothing short of an amazing response across all attacks.

Setup

After Jeff completes building the banjo, he plays them in. The banjo arrived ready to play. She arrived with: Dean Markley medium gauge strings; action at 12th fret set between 3/16 and 7/32; action at nut (4th set at .025 to 1st at .020); 2 custom bridges, and a wine cork dampner; 5th string tuner set at 6th fret; 26 3/16 scale; radiused fingerboard; Dunlop 6230 fretwire.

Appearance

ALL hardware hand-crafted brass. Well-figured East Indian Rosewood neck with vertical strips of walnut. Beautiful Braxilian Rosewood fingerboard (width of fingerboard = 42mm). Oldtime, wooden, square dowel stick. No inlay work. Treated Renaissance head.

Reliability

Jeff's craftmenship is impeccable. This banjo is built EXCEPTIONALLY well. I am comparing this to having owned a Deering, two Omes, and a Ramsey; The Cloverlick is BY FAR the best built (and sounding).

Customer Service

Jeff is a pleasure to work with. He regularly updated me on the progress of the banjo with detailed specifications, pictures, and various samples to experiment with before moving forward in the building process. I really felt involved in the process. In fact, I was a really demanding customer. I insisted on many specifications that he was not providing at the time (brass hardware, Dunlop fretwire, width of neck, custom Tony Pass rim). He also provided: black strap, Yew Pine Biscuit Mix, Ol' Banjarpicker Spice, Owner manual, fingerboard oil, polish, extra set of strings, Parchment title, polish rag, tuner crank, and bracket wrench.
