I've got a friend looking to hold a private event this fall in the DC area.  He's wanting some great music.  :)  Dunno dates, times or $$ yet, but I am looking for recommendations to give him.

Who's making good music out there these days?

Contact Ira Gitlin. He lives in Alexandria and is a great banjo/guitar player. Not sure if he is in a bluegrass band, but is part of a really killer old-time country band.

You might contact Brad Kolodner. He plays mostly old time though. He lives near Baltimore - pretty short drive to DC area. Search for his name or Charm City Junction on youtube.

A couple that come to mind are Heavy Traffic Ahead (https://www.htabluegrass.com/) and By and By (http://byandbyband.com/).  Message me if you want contact details. Both excellent local bands.

Heh, why not call the Seldom Scene? I hear they're a pretty good DC band...  ;)

You might try contacting Murphy Henry. Winchester isn't that far from DC, and she certainly knows the musicians in her area.

Brad Kolodner was mentioned in the Baltimore area and he's a great old time player.  He and his father Ken have a new album out that's really incredible with some of the coolest arrangements of old-time classics I've heard in a long time.  The album is titled "The Swift House"; you can sample the tracks in the link below:

Also check out Patent Pending, been playing for decades in the area. Traditional.
