Thank you very much for posting that. I have been listening to Tony all my musical life, both bluegrass and not. He has been and still is a profound influence on most of us.

A CD is in my player now. One of my favorites on it is "He Rode All the Way to Texas."

His playing and singing on it is just beautiful, sweet, somber and amazing.

Fine though tragic article. Thanks for the post.

Tony was one of the voices that got me into bluegrass in the early 80's

Yep, saw it this morning. He's way to fragile for his age - just 61. Sue hope he can get himself squared away.

I did think it cool that he drove an SVT Cobra Mustang to his gigs. I bet we wasn't late often.

It's a sad article for me.The very first bluegrass concert I saw was Doyle Lawson,J D Crowe and the new south and the Tony Rice Unit in Lawrence Ks around 1990 or 91. They did a Bluegrass Album band reunion with the Simpkins brothers on bass and fiddle. I really did now know what I was witnessing at the time. I remember Tony broke a string,went back behind the curtain to change it,and when he came back out he was blowing smoke. Nobody wants to talk about it,but it's the tobacco that's taken his voice,that and other stuff. You can't abuse yourself for 50 yrs and get away with it.Take a listen to Paul Williams if you don't believe me. He's been known to sing above his range a time or two. 

Don't think I'm passing judgement,I smoked for 35 yrs myself.It's a hard thing to get away from.
