Skip that banjo turned out really nice had to make the whole peghead wider to get the inlay in it, I was afraid it may not look good but it looks just fine maybe you can post a picture of that peghead when he gets back up there with it.

I'll be happy to do so, Arthur. And I'm really looking forward to hearing this banjo!
My very best to you, Bev and the entire Hatfield Banjo Clan! Really wish I could be with you folks this weekend.

I think you're all going to be very surprised with what Jerry Sloan has come up with in his new tone rings in the JBS banjo. I'd love to hear a report from anyone who gets to play it

I just got a conversion last week from Arthur that has a JBS ring in it. It's mighty good. Arthur said himself that it was towards the top of the list of the ones he has done. Lots of power and good tone. It sounds mighty fine. Jim |

I am very impressed with the new JBS ring. I had Jerry replace a top notch ring with his new JBS ring in another one of my banjos this week-end. I now own two banjos containing his ring. The best sounding new and prewar banjos that I played (and heard from the front side as well) for three days straight at SPBGMA all contained JBS rings. Arthur acquired a prewar pot banjo on Thursday, and immediately swapped out the old ring for a JBS. The result was an instant killer banjo. There were at least 3 guys arguing about who was leaving with it, and one of them did walk out of Arthur's room with that banjo. It was scary good. Literally 5 minutes after Jerry put a JBS ring in my '56 Bowtie, I handed it to Kurt Stephenson to play for a while. I'll post a grainy iPhone video as soon as I can get it uploaded from my phone. |

Jerrys ring is really good... We played at least 4 banjos with the JBS ring and they were all good. I knew Arthur was gettin skeerd about folks wanting that banjo He put the JBS ring in Fri. Wish I would have got a pic of the folks sitting on the toilet in Arthur and Bevs room picking them banjers. Thanx for the coffee ... was the only real coffee in the place.

Tim, this is for you buddy. I hope Arthur knows I mean well here and I am sure Bev will like it anyway. Man that banjo is a goodin. I can only second what Sam has already stated here. I saw three JLS rings put in and immediately heard a huge change in all three. I think Jerry has a fine tone ring here and the world will soon find out just how good, cause I think he is gonna sell a bunch of em.
I bought that banjo that Sam was talking about and I think it is a hoss. Somewhere round a 27 prewar rim, Gill resonator, JLS tone ring and a beautiful Arthur Hatfield neck. I am one happy camper about acquiring the banjo

I played on it some and it is killer... so you are the one who got it. Travis loved the pick pouch yall gave him. Wish we could have been there yesterday but Devin is coaching his sons basketball team now and did not want to be awol. It was fun fri. got to see folks I had not seen since last year and that dang Jeff Crews was pulling some tone as usual. I gotta steal some more of his licks. Maybe some of us Ky folks can make it up for Your jam in June. The pic on the toilet is priceless and I am sure Bev will laugh till she... well you know. |

Please excuse me for making a typo in my post above. It is a JBS ring not JLS. Fingers working like they do when I pick banjo. Sorry Jerry for my error.

The toilet was the only place there was enough lighting to see how to do some kinds of work or to get away from the noise enough to even hear a banjo enough to do anything to it. Either go to the toilet or out in the hall to work and set in the floor then had to try to dodge the housekeeping people to keep them from running over me with a cleaning cart. Also like to thank Sam [Beardog] for furnishing the coffee and cups for everyone.

I got a banjo from Arthur on Friday and played it in a show on Saturday night. It is good. Real good. But on to my main point, I tried it out in the bathroom. That bath tub made a great reverb chamber.

Lots of fine banjos in Arthur's room! Donnie, you did indeed get a good one! I also really like the Jr. Williams 'tone hoop' banjo...

Let's see some more pics of the gathering of the Hatfield Clan! I sure don't want an image of Arthur pickin' on the pot to be burned in my memory forever (although when you get right down to it, it DOES explain a lot...).
