Friday the 18th was my last session at physical therapy.

I now have a set of exercises to do at home, to strengthen the muscles.

I can play the banjo ( as badly as ever) with little or no discomfort.

Hauling the Pop-up tent and the display racks and the cinder block weights and the huge boxes of cookie tin banjos for the Art & Crapft Fair was an ache-inducing job, but it didn't rip anything loose.

So, my advice to those of you who may need similar surgery:

Be bold, be cheerful, don't skip the exercises when nobody's looking.

The pain is bearable, especially with the pills you are entitled to.

And the PT people are trained to know, by feeling your shoulder muscles with ONE hand, while they twist your arm all to HevilLL with the other, how far they can really torque things.

Also, you are allowed to tell them when it's  starting to hurt.

What's scarier? Some pain for an hour or so, during the sessions, or the thought of having an arm that can't chord a banjo, can't hug a grandchild.

Of course the banjo!  Also the at home exercises that you do to keep your shoulders strong.  Having gone through major shoulder surgery I can tell you that continuing the exercises is very important.

Congrats, MIke.    We're all pulling for you.

Just not on your left arm.
