Is there any way of getting banjo hangout in an iPad friendly version?

The site actually renders pretty good on an iPad, the only issue I have is playing sound files in the flash player. I non-flash alternative would be handy :)

I'm guessing this topic has come up before, but here's my two cents.

I find the menus a little difficult to navigate on iPad(the text links are very small and I tend to hit the wrong one) and the inability to hear other peoples music files is a big downside.

I realise that the ipad's incompatibility with flash is a downside of the iPad and not the hangout but surely there could be an "app for that" without too much hastle? Who do we talk to to get a banjo hangout app made?

I usually load the bangohangout page from my Ipad and it works just fine for me. Still, being able to listen to music there would be great too.

The Flash Player problem (which is irritating) is not a BHO issue, IMO.  Apple decided to disenfranchise us iPad owners on that one.  Shouldn't be up to websites to suck up to Apple and the legacy of Steve Jobs.

Some iPad browsers support flash, after a fashion.  Photon, for one.  And then there is Spalshtop, a tool that will allow you to mirror an open, working computer in range.  Which is somewhat silly, IMHO.

I'm an Apple fan, but agree with Bill that their decision to disenfranchise Flash users is silly, short-sighted, and one which falls squarely on the shoulders of Apple execs rather than website managers.  I find myself designing around Flash all the time so as not to exclude faculty in the arts and the hard sciences, many of whom would part with their spouses before they gave up their Macs.

It would be really cool to be able to access the chat room too! But apple hates java as well.

I was just retained by Jacob Marketing, Inc in Knoxville, TN to explore, among many other things, making his website(s) mobile-savvy (iPad, Android, etc). It's a new thing for me so I will be learning this within the next 6-12 months.

I'll follow this thread, as it reflects one of the very issues I am / will be tasked to deal with. I see lots of applets out there to work with towards compatibility, but it is all new to me as a consultant and developer.

Maybe Eric is grappling with this too? Who knows, maybe we can share notes as I work towards some similar goals for another client...

As a Mac user, I agree. Steve Jobs and Adobe got into a hissy fight and Mac users suffer for it... IMO

You should read Steve Job's biography (if you haven't)--just read it last week. Some interesting info about the Adobe/Apple issue.

Our approach at BitSculptor when it comes to Flash is to simply avoid it. Nowadays you have to make your site "mobile friendly", and Flash is not mobile friendly. Easy as that! There are other things you can do to make a site more mobile friendly, of course--changing navigation structure, removing content, etc. But making sure your site doesn't rely on Flash is key.

In the case of the Hangouts, we're working on getting the jukebox out of the Flash realm and into something that works on iPad and iPhones. We use a third-party Flash player right now, but that will be probably be changing.

Have not read Steve Jobs' book. I think I will. His products have affected my life since 1983.

I'm hearing from all directions to get away from Flash. So as I explore these sites (build them basically) I'll keep that in mind. Most of the heavy code lifting here will probably be subbed out.

Thanks I'll keep checking in. If I run into anything I can share over the next many months, I'll post it here or email you directly.

Okay duh ...  I just realized that is your company. I may be calling you Eric for some consulting on low and high level stuff. I am working on an overview and plan of action now. I'll not go Off Topic here but may be able to tap into some of your creative services. Who knows.

For the time being you can also just hit the download button and you can listen via your QuickTime player. At least that is the case for the iPhone I would assume the iPad is the same

I've found the mobile vetsion of the hangout loads by default on my android tablet which is easy to navigate. Don't know how to get that vrtsion on an iPad, or how to get back to that if I have switched to the desktop version.

I have a Toshiba Thrive android tablet, and the site loads in a mobile version the same as it would on the phone, making everything big.  I sometimes scroll to the bottom of the page and switch to the desktop version and it fits much more on the screen.

It would be more convenient to have the "Switch to Desktop" option available at the top of the page instead of having to scroll down all the time.

Chris Cooper - - Load the Hangout in horizontal mode - all the text and the menus automatically get bigger and it works great in that configuration.

The new Jukebox is now up, although we're still tweaking it. Works on iPad/iPhone!

Awesome. Now I might have to get an iPad!

The avatars in the player are a great touch. But... they are kind of squished in many cases, especially tall and skinny ones like mine.

I'm using the new mp3 player on my iPad as I write on my laptop. It works well, with only one oddity - there is no > sign for 'Play', but two pause signs II  II

But it works!

My daughter has an older model iPod Touch. When I tried it,  I also got two pause buttons. Neither one would make it play.
