I have given much advice on this forum but now I need some of my own.  I would like to get a decent, easy playing, loud clawhammer banjo in the sub-$400 range.

As for Deerings and Gold Tones I'm not interested in them right now as I have already played/owned them and I am looking for something different.

Thanks in advance

Have you tried the RK-O25... you should be able to find one for under $400 easily.

I bought one a year and a half ago and I'm still pleased with it. See my reviews of it.

400 smackers is hard to do for a decent banjer. you have ruled out the top contenders in this range, Id save up a bit for a reiter or a ramsey

If you have a cheapish banjo hanging around you can have
Helix put a rim on it and it'll be an awesome claw machine.
It only cost $275 for the change out.

I recently have settled on a Pennington maple/grenadilla rim and some parts that I picked up here and there. I should have less than $400 in it. I'll let everybody know how it turns out. Thanks for the advice.
