B!t(h!ng and whining are totally different things! In the service anyone can be a real b!t(h, but you can't be a wuss. |

That should be with any work place, one thing to say, this could be done better like this, another to whine about how it's done and not try

How about the sommelier at a nice restaurant? He's got to ask people if the want a little wine.

I don't think I need him to get motivated over me.
Don't get me wrong--he's a hard worker. It's not like he shirks his job duties or is lazy. One of the things that I liked about him when we were dating was that even though he was unhappy with his job at the time, he stuck it out and worked hard and put in overtime did things that weren't really in his job description. His parents didn't pay for any of his college. He worked full time and went to school and got his degree and then went on for a masters.
It's more that he's very defeatist about his ability to move up in the world. My opinion is that if there's a job you're interested in you should apply for it. Or if you're unhappy with your job, look around to see what's out there and apply for things that sound interesting. Sure you'll get turned down a lot, but you'll never get a new/better/more interesting job if you don't apply. He just figures he won't get the job so why bother applying.
It's like my first job here at the college. I knew I'd kicked butt in the interview. That was probably the best interview I've ever been to. But I also knew that I didn't know the computer systems that were used for the college and there was a good chance that someone (like a temp) who knew the system would also apply for the job and that I couldn't compete with someone who knew the system. But I applied for the job and I got it. And I've had two promotions since then and I'm in a good position to move up again if I want to or to apply for a job at other colleges if I want. That wasn't the first job I'd applied for here. There were other positions that I never even got an interview for. But I kept applying, hoping to get my foot in the door, and eventually I did.
He just figures that there's someone better qualified or that they won't hire him because they need to fill a minority quota or whatever and he doesn't bother applying. So he ends up stuck in the jobs he doesn't like and he never gets anywhere. |

Yeah, that would put a serious damper on dating potential. There's rules against that kind of thing. |

Actually I don't work on campus. I tell people I work at "an undisclosed location."
We had a retreat last month and there was a "meet and greet" kind of thing at the beginning. We had to find people who met certain qualifications and then tell them certain things about ourselves. One of the qualifications was to find someone who worked in my building--and there's not a lot of us, so I was pretty popular. One of the questions we had to answer was what we like best about our job. I said, "I love that I can walk to the bathroom without being accosted by students."
Most people said something dorky like, "I like helping people." |

I have no desire to live in Florida. I would have moved there if my ex-boyfriend had not been such an ass. But I suspect I would have hated it. |
