I was wondering what the school of thoughts were on this. I have two banjos that has at least a half inch of extra wood after the last fret where the neck meets the pot.
I just went and measured one and it has over a half inch of wood left!... I didnt measure the other banjo but there is not much difference in them as far as the space goes...
Most banjos Ive ever played did not have no where near this amount of space. But they sound OK... But I keep wondering what would happen if I chopped a little of that extra wood off...thereby making the bridge/string angle increase... and moving the bridge closer back towards the tailpiece.... wonder how it could sound... "Better" or "Worse"...."Muted"...etc.
Anyway while Im pondering on this.. Id like to know what yalls experience and thoughts are on this topic.
