10 3/4" rims were typical of the Chicago makers, but this one just doesn't look too familiar. Is there a dowelstick? Seeing it in place with the fittings might help (or not).

the dowel stick is gone but inside the tension hoop there are two parallel marks as if marking it as 2 and the same marks are in the tone ring and the rim where the tone ring sits at the neck

I have seen that peghead shape on some Wm. Lange-made banjos, Paramount maybe. The fingerboard inlay also looks like Lange-made. Rim had been diddled with, Nuts are Vega-like but you can buy new ones.

I'll go with timmo on this. Lange used hardware that at least looked a lot like Vega's. I also think the pattern around the rim is similar to Lange's various brands and trade banjos.

After first viewing the pics I thought Lange/Orpheum, too. The pot certainly looks like those on the Orpheums and the fancy neck inlays as well. The peghead shape is not one I've seen before. Good call, Tim....

Go to "Bill's Banjos" and look at his Orpheum #1 under Rettberg & Lange

'Tis a fun site to visit for any reason.
