OK so there are Tabs for Skippy the bush Kangaroo in the Tableture Archive. My problem is that they need TABrite to open them with.

Big deal just download TABrite you say... well I tried that and my blondeness is getting the better of me because no matter what i try it only opens up a blank page of nothing.

Is it possible to change a TABrite file into a TablEdit file? And if it is possible is there anyone out there that would be able to do it for me?

I'd love to learn to play it but at my level of experience it would take me till the end of forever to try and learn it by ear so I need the tab to assist me.

Any help is appreciated

Kip

Hey up Koala, 'Been there! had a look! you're right, NOWT! but you CAN listen to it & maybe try a little learning 'by ear', though I'm sure someone'll have the knowledge to maybe write you a tab after listening, beyond me with my lack of skill. Good Luck anyway & Happy Pickin', Edwin T (Grumps)

You can save the tabrite file to your hard drive, then open it from tabledit. That's how I do it.

If you're unable to transfer the TABrite tab to Tabledit, let me know and I'll send you Skippy as either a jpeg, pdf, or Microsoft Word doc, your choice.

BTW, I wrote that tab many years ago because I really LOVED that show.

UPDATE: I just posted "Skippy" in the Tab Section. You can access it as either a pdf file (Adobe document) or as a jpg (photo). If you'd still like it as a Microsoft Word document, email me off-line.

Stu, did you see the show while on TDY or something like that?

Thank you,

Naw, it was on one of the local So. California TV channels I watched in the '60s. I remember it coming on every Sunday afternoon. Great show, and a great way for a Yank kid like me to be introduced to the wonders of Australia.

Thanks, I just had a good laugh with playing that tab, bringing back a few memories at the same time.

Well, it was on one of the Los Angeles independent stations of the '60s; probably aired on one of the following: Channel 5 (KTLA), 9 (KHJ), 11 (KTTV), or 13 (KCOP). That was back in the days of “rabbit ears” (long before cable or satellite TV). It was a simpler time back then.

Yep, I knew it, snowy channel 11, right a long with that Hobo Kelly. (Who I thought was HOT!) Remember "Moona Lisa?" She was on channel 10 KOGO San Diego...Now she WAS hot. I met her and told her what I though about her...The story ends there.

Thank you,

There's Tabledited version in the tab section now also.

Standard G tuning.

Thanks, Tom. I love the rhythm of your version, fits in nicely with the Irish stuff I do too.

I'd never heard of this tune or show before it was posted on the BHO.

After setting up the tab arrangement, a banjo student that comes to my house on Saturdays asked me what I'd been up to lately...

I mentioned the 'Skippy' tab and she was knocked over with surprize and happiness...said she loved the show when she was a kid...

I don't know how I missed it...I watched WAY too much television when I was a kid. I've been studying and playing music now for 29 years and counting to make up for the wasted television time.

As an adult, I've only owned one television...while I was married for 3.5 years, back in the mid-late 1990s.

The wife insisted on it.

When we parted ways...the TV stayed with her....no arguments from me.

She never understood why I would sit in the basement for hours on end working on banjo and guitar arrangements, and I could never understand why she had to have the television on 24/7. She couldn't function WITHOUT it and I couldn't function WITH it! :)

To this day, I still have not learned how to use a remote.

They appear to require a Phd. to understand and operate.

And what about all this craziness with the new television stuff, where you have to buy or rent an adapter or a new set in order to keep up with the new format?

My old, beat-up banjos...one from the sixties and the second...from the 30s and the 70s (Frankenstein banjo)...work fine!

What if you received a letter in the mail, or an e-mail, or saw an info-mercial on TV informing you that your banjo would no longer operate after an upcoming posted date, without being 'reformatted' or having to buy or rent an adapter or a whole new banjo?

Thank you, television afficionados...I'll stick with my annoying banjo!

And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.....

For some reason, the 'roo won't leave me alone.

I've been humming this tune all weekend...can't get it out of my head now...

I added some 'jazzier' riffage to what I did earlier and swapped a 'hot pentatonic ear-grabber-style lick' at the very end along with some minor changes to make it easier to play.

It's listed as 'Jazzed Up' at the end of the regular title.

Both arrangements are on the BHO tab section.

Now, let's 'Throw a 'Roo on the Barbie!'.

Just kidding! Sorry! :)

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

What a wonderful response.

Not that my DH thinks so, as I've been driving him mad wandering around the house singing the theme song and ending it with: "SKIPPY, SKIPPY - now I've got the tab for it too"

Thanks again to Studebaker Hawk and banjotom2 for posting the tabs in the Tab Archive and thanks to azh and Shamrock who sent me Tab for it also.

I've now got a few versions to play around with and will eventally post a soundfile on BHO once it is safe for public hearing - which may take me a while but I'll get there.

Just between you and me Skippy tastes alright and is also a pretty healthy meat as its very low in fat.
