I am watching 'Rio Bravo'...good movie. I have seen this several times, but love the Western John Wayne movies.
Here's an odd thing. I actually paid attention tonight. I noticed the lace curtains in the bar and the lace curtains and drapes in the upstairs rooms. Nice set this movie has. Guess I didn't see those lace curtains before.
I think 'Rio Bravo' was a great flick for what it was. I especially liked Dean Martin and Walter Brennan in their parts. Chunkin' dynamite at the bad guys at the end of the movie has to be big fun.

Big John Wayne western fan here. Rio Bravo was one of the greats. I like the part where they all sing Cindy together. Walter Brennan was great singing without his "eatin' teeth". Here's a link:

Two of the movies on my "best" list are John Waynes. "Stagecoach" and "The Quiet Man". There are so many more. Any of the Ford westerns with Duke are great. "The Cavalry Trilogy" ranks right up there. Also "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", "The Searchers" and "The Shootist" with a young Ron Howard and an older Lauren Bacall are exquisite pieces of film making.
Funny thing. My wife despises the man. She cannot abide his movies or anything to do with him. She will leave the room when his movies are on. Her reasons are 'the way he treats women', and 'his violence'. I think the first reason is the most explosive. We have a difficult time even discussing him, although we are civil. I think this is the only thing my bride and I are diametrically opposed about.
I love his grit and common sense; his ability to see things in black and white, right and wrong. I do not care for his 'jingo-ism' (note "The Green Berets" or "The Alamo.")
He was a hero from another time, a different America. Somebody once said that Ted Williams acted like John Wayne. I always thought it was the other-way around.

"Rio Bravo" was filmed at the Old Tucson movie set, which was all real western buildings inside and out, not temporary sets. Many of the original buildings burned down a few years ago. I used to live a few miles from there and actually played a few gigs on the streets. A great place to visit if you like Westerns.
John Wayne . . . . I think he still ranks in the top ten in popularity 30 years after he died . . . . . Does anyone remember who the president was 30 years ago . . . or care??
