this is for the guy's and gal's who have just started on the banjo, ive seen in the last two weeks some of them have put threads on the forum saying they dont seem to be geting anywere with it, and ive just replied keep at it, it will come, i first pick up a banjo back in the 70s after seeing Earl Scruggs in London, i couldn't get anywere with it so i just jacked it in, 4 years ago i started playing again and ive played every day since, the banjo has always been a passion with me, im not shure why i couldn't get on with it all those years ago maybe i didn't have the patience, but i could play the Guitar. any way, two years ago i heared a tune on tv, it was on a prgramme about the American cival war the tune was called Ashokan Farewell i just loved the tune and thought i'd love to play it on the banjo so i got the tab's by Tom Adams but again i couldn't get anywere with it so i life it. one of the guy's i jam with played it on the fiddle last week, when i got home i got the tab's out and started with it again, i can now play it, its not 100% yet but its coming, what a great feeling. what i just wont to say to you guy's that are geting boged down and just dont seem to be geting anywere with it keep at it, play every day, it will come.

VERY, VERY much agree! Practice, practice, practice! I am a music major, and when I was in college I practiced my trombone for 6-8 hours a day. Out in the real world that is not possible, but I still practice the banjo at least two hours a day. You can sure "hash" out a lot in that amount of time per day. BUT, it is truly fun to do and there are times I just don't want to stop practicing!!!! Great post and everyone have fun practicing!!!

Read Masters of the Banjo and check out their practice time's ,,some of them will blow your mind and i thought i practice

The Masters book is also inspiring to read that almost all had their periods of becoming disgusted with their own picking and progress and how they dealt with it, psychologically, as well as physically. It can really be a pick me up when going through a rough patch. The book is worth every penny!

Can you please give me more details on this book? i.e. isbn? I have had a lot of support from this forum in the past and yes, again, with the urging frmo my frineds, I have just started again. Thanks for the support

It is an expensive book ,but as said ,,worth it ..It has a wealth of info ..It will lift you up and let you see that the JD's ect of the banjo world ,,just didnt happen ,,they paid there dues ,,with dedication ,detemination ,talent and just plain hard work ..
