Rob, Thanks for your kind sharing and generosity. I have been helped out the timing rut that I seemed to have developed as a result of having noone else to play with or around. I live here in what is sometimes known as the peoples republic of California and as a result can't seem to locate anybody to jam with. As a result, my sense of timing, or as you call it sycopation, seems to suffer. Your suggestions on your video however have been of great value to me with respect to this problem. Again, Many Thanks! |

I sounds like the fourth, but the note after sounds like the fourth too, so it would be if I'm correct,3153(2-3 sl) 134(2-4 sl) 4. Hope someone can help.
I've been busy, but I'll answer this tomorrow.

Thank you Rob, for taking the time to do the videos .. Im sure it will help many many people and give inspiration to even more . I have seen awesome musicians but lack the ability to pass that knowledge on to others .. being able to teach is an art in its own form .. something you seem to have .. keep up the GREAT WORK !! and keep those videos coming .. Ray. |

I have been abusing guitars for 45 years. This last week my Berklee guitar grad nephew spent some time teaching me real positions for minor pentatonic, proper fingering and the beginnings of understanding root chords and building from them. It takes a very special person to teach "warmly." He has that personality. Then so do my daughter and her mother-daughter is Special Ed consultant and team teacher-ex-wife, mother, taught special ed before it had a phrase assigned to it.She is also one of my very best friends. She is now a principal with a Doctorate-I edited the dissertation-man, am I blessed to have her forgiveness and friendship. I'm ashamed of myself(infidelity) but proud she believes I am a decent man whom she wishes to befriend-her husband is a real gent as well.
I mention the suggestion of how our marriage ended because a real teacher has a dedication to "mid-wifing" potential and committment to even those who may struggle. So, thanks again, Rob! Ol "Philosopher" Lefty |

Sorry, busy few days.
Almost. Instead of 3153(2-3 sl) 134(2-4 sl) 4, it would be 3153(2-3 sl) 154(2-4 po) 13. That's if your talking about the place I think you are.
I would just take my time with the video. I tell which strings to use, so just be patient and get one at a time.
I know this requires stopping it and pausing, but it will work. |

Thanks Ray.
Lefty, I am impressed with your honesty. Most folks try to blame everything on someone else. I wish you well with your banjo. I am sure that trait is also of great benefit to anyone who is serious about learning as well.

I was going to do the high part this weekend, but I have a very sore cuticle on the side of my ring finger, and it hurts to choke.
I also am playing a Christmas concert with my cello playing buddy tonight, and am not looking forward to it.
Check this guy out.

Hey Rob...........try soaking that sore finger in some Hydrogen Peroxide for a little bit, then in some Ebsom Salt if it's swelled up. Then if ya got a sore, cut , or red spot, dap a little iodine on it. You'll be good to go then! |

I did the show, and tried to remember that Django only used 2 fingers most of the time. I did do what you suggested minus the salts, but too little too late. Saturday night when I got home, I put Neosporin on it, and wrapped it with a band aid. Almost good to go.
I'll have some more vids soon. |

Sgtmoodyman,
My advice is probably not very popular, but I never used tab to learn, or teach, until the student can learn by ear, (and then they don't need it.)
Glad to hear it Stumpy Fingers.
Newsome and Skyraider, I am starting more vids next week. I am better and will start some more vids this week. |

Awesome job Rob, greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into the FMB lesson, most of us have probably paid for far less. By the way, the cripple creek lesson got my timing problem straight too! Keep up the great work. |

I'm glad to help guys. I haven't been doing much. I had a problem with my videos, but I just got a new MacBook Pro, and I am getting ready to do some new lessons. They take a long time when you do them this way, so it will be a couple more weeks.
Merry Christmas everyone. |
