The new beta site has several hundred tabs in it that need some "further classification" done--playing style, song genre, tuning, etc...the better we classify them, the better the tab library will be.

If you'd be interested in being deemed a "tab admin" so you can go in and update tabs with the new info, post here to let me know!

Also, FYI--you can upload tabs to the new beta site right now. Cool stuff!

I can certainly pick out and classify the clawhammer tabs. The others, not so much.

Sorry, changed my mind.

I am interested.
I'm an Old-Timey freak but I am familiar with and have tried a little of most banjo styles: Bluegrass, classic banjo, ragtime, minstrel and plectrum banjo.

I spend a lot of improductive time at BHO so why not be a little productive also?

I think I might have a likttle time to work on the tabs, but it would be mainly bluegrass because I'm not that familiar with clawhammer, about all I could do with the clawhammer tabs is specify that they were clawhammer. Jazz and classical I don't think I'd be very helpful with. If you need my help on the bluegrass tabs, let me know.

Though I am busy enough with other things, let me know if you really need the help. I might be a OK resource because I am fairly Tab and style fluent.

Are you expecting that I shall make a special tab team campaign aiming to breake the American dominance on this site?

No...Just get the midi right for "Classical Gas." It's not my tune but Bobby Thompson's and it's the only tab that has his okay...If you can't get the MIDI right, just remove the midi.

Thank you,

As I've been posting my arrangements to the BHO tab library, I've noticed that there could be a few more "Categories" added to the list.

1) Gospel

I just posted a piece to the BHO tab library and noticed that we don't have the option of standard "Drop C" tuning.

What Earl used on "Home Sweet Home" and I used on the "Godfather Theme".

I looked several times and that particular one is either not there or just evading my vision.

"Tabs by Category"

Well into the Christmas season, it came to me that it would be handy for tab forum folks to be able to look up a 'group' of tunes by 'category'.

Just as we can see "Newest Additions"....what if you could hit a button for "Christmas Tabs", "Sawmill Tuning Tabs". etc.

On my own web site, I set aside pages devoted to categorizing tabs by "group", so that if you're interested in 'Beatles only' or 'Christmas only', you don't have to look though hundreds of titles to get you there. My site is not a perfect example of how to do that, but it seems like on a fancier site like this one, it should just be a matter of 'querying the database' by a given category to help speed up and narrow or focus a search.

The 'clawhammer-only' folks or 'sawmill-tuning only' folks could get what they are looking for quickly, making the business of searching for a tune or style or tuning or other specific category an easier and more efficient item to accomplish.

Category-Specific Buttons seems like it would be a mighty handy tool to have and would take the already mighty Banjo Hangout to the next level.

I just added Hoagy Carmichael's "Heart & Soul" to the BHO tab archive and found that we don't have a category for "Doo-Wop", a music style from the fifties.

Hooterthunkit?

We're breaking new ground.

At any rate, "Doo-Wop" would be another useful category to add as the BHO requesters think of new areas to try.

I posted a tune several days ago that put the banjo in an Open D tuning...

It was not available in the choices of tunings...

Open D:

4 -d
5 -f#

Also:

Open D:

Eric,

Thanks for adding the "Rock" category...

Our styles are expanding every day it seems...

I just noticed we could use "Blues" as a category...

What about "Slide Banjo"?

Even Sam Bush plays 'slide mandolin'...

And I've got at least one 'slide-blues' banjo piece in the archive...

Thanks for all you do...

Tom

Gospel
Halloween
Military (Marine's Hymn)...
Original
Slide Banjo
Thanksgiving

Thanks again...

I just noticed there is no OPEN D tuning:

The clawhammer folks call it "Reuben" tuning...

d
a
f#
d
f# (leave as G, capo to A), variation #1

And I know there are a few variations on this one...
