Mars Hill was a pleasure. My students were wonderful. The quality of the jam sessions amongst all levels of students was wonderful. Atmosphere VERY friendly. Even the food in the cafeteria was good. Highly recommended for people who seriously want to improve on their old time playing!
Loved hearing Adam Hurt, Pete Peterson & Kellie Allen, Carl Jones & Bev Smith, Alice Gerrard and all the instructors.

Wish we'd had more time to spend there. We gave a well attended 2-finger workshop on Friday and jammed 'till the wee hours. Thanks Kate, Ann, Mary, Helen, Jaques (sp?) and ohers for a fine jam. And thanks to Hillary for having us back :-)

Anyone wanting a week of full immersion and FUN should be at Mars Hill next year. With teachers like Cathy, how can you go wrong!? here's a link:

I love the Mars Hill Blue Ridge Old Time Music Week. I had to miss it this year due to Navy duties. Glad to hear a good report.

The banjo instruction at Mars Hill was great this year...in addition to Cathy, there was Jeremy Stephens, who did an awesome job showing various styles from southwest and southside Virginia and Round Peak; Carl Jones for beginners, and Amy Buckingham jumped in to help out the rank beginners; and of course Adam Hurt for the advanced class. Thanks to all who helped make it happen. Overheard in response to a bad banjo joke:
"Q: what's the difference between God and a fiddler? A: God knows he's not a fiddler."

Blessed are those that can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused...

Was there in 2008 and had a wonderful time and made some fine new friends. It will be a tough sell for me in the future as it falls on my wedding anniversay, and, well, my wife usually has other plans for me.
