Hey David! Long time, no see. I'm glad you got a chance to put on an ole Remo. Yep, with the old heads, you need to tighten it down just a bit more. So what bridge are you using now?
The Grich giddy? Say it isn't so.
Good one Lazyarcher!

I don't have to try the ring...I'm only interested in keeping to the rules.
I think enough warnings have been given...and I know the members that I speak of know whom I speak of.

One thing that doesnt get mentioned here very much is how much knowledge of prewar Gibson banjos Jim Burlile has. The man knows some interesting facts about them as well as every specification from the smallest screw to the littlest neck detail. He is a pleasure to talk too on the phone. I have learned alot from the man.

It is quite clear that the burlile ring improves sustain

I've only heard one Burlile powered banjo in person...and that was with Kenny Ingram at the helm. He is such a tone monster, its hard to really judge the ring from just hearing him, as I suspect he would pull tone out of a banjo with NO tonering. Saying that, the ring sure sounded good in his banjo. Its the depth of the tone that seems to set it apart from others...the Yates banjo sounds similiar to me in Ron Stewarts hands. Its got that deep POP with good note seperation.
Regardless of the ring, the fact that players have become willing to pay $1000-1500++ for a tonering reflects just how important a lot of people view the tone ring as being.
