More About Me

I began teaching "professionally" at the Haddonfield Conservatory of Music of Haddonfield, NJ in 1964. I taught folk guitar and banjo during the "Folk Boom" of the 60s in a conservatory largely populated by members of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and I couldn't even read music then!

I was a budding young bluegrass player, and spent the next 20 years playing in BG bands. After grad school, I found myself in an eclectic band playing guitar and BG style banjo; when our clawhammer player left, I was asked if I could play CH, to which I happily replied "hell yes!".

I married the band's chick singer up front, and when we left the band so I could take a new job, I started playing clawhammer exclusively.

Although I am now best known as a CH player/teacher, I still welcome BG beginners and intermediates.

I currently teach in my store (toll-free 866-365-5189), in my home, and on Skype.

I have a number of YouTube videos, mostly for demonstrating instruments that I have for sale at the store and I also post slow videos of the left hand to help my students or anyone else who is interested.  In addition, I have more than 100 MP3s that are available for free download on my store site.
