How come when I view a members icon next to a contribution, it says they have XXXXX number of contributions, but when I go to their home page it says that they have only contributed a small fraction of that number? Just wondering.

Another Fix request for Eric

Wow, I've noticed Eric is really in code-mode lately, fixing things fast, and adding little tweaks here and there. So, while he's in the mood, how about this Eric:

There is still no way for a member to manager his or her own videos. You have a convenient "Muisc" link from the member home page, but nowhere to visit and manage videos. The only way to do this is to go to videos and search for your own user name.

In the new Attachments feature you just added to forums you have the ability to attach a video link to the post, and golly, there is a list of all videos I posted. How about that.

Well, it's be nice to have a link to manage them too. What's the deal? I know this has been brought to your attention plenty of times, maybe can it possibly make onto your radar screen for the five minutes it will take to add that feature?

Pullleeeeezzze? Pury Puuullleeeeze?

Forum posts when not logged is not quite right

Hey there Eric--

It looks like you made some slight changes to the routine when someone posts to a thread while not logged in. But there is s light problem with your change that you can easily fix.

Before your change, if not logged in and you clicked "Reply to Topic" the log-in info was included along with the text box to reply to the post.

Your edit to the routine now redirects you to the log-in screen, and once logged in, you land back at a screen ready to reply to the topic.

Good so far, great change. BUT...

once you make the post and submit it, you are landed back on the same screen to make another post. Instead, you should be landed on the last page of the thread.

Other than that, I like the change.

Search Engine timing out

Every time I do a forum search, or almost every time the search engine times out on me and I get this error message:

<font face="Arial">Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'

Script timed out

/pages/forum/search.asp

The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools. </font id="Arial">(End of Message)

I am not sure if the message applies to my computer or the server...

I always select "Search entire message" and this particular search was for the following parameters:

1)Calfskin head
2)Match exact phrase
3)Entire Message
4)Any date
5) (Member textbox left empty)

I have done lots of searches looking for information and I almost always get this time out unless it is a very basic search maybe it depends on the server traffic at the time...

Not sure but I thought I would bring it to your attention as I seem to have better luck searching on google then getting forum links from google than within the BH search forum route... It is pretty frustrating after waiting for 30-45 seconds and then to get the error message.

I think from my software testing days, this would be classified as a bug of some sort, but I really think the server cannot handle it, and just times out.

I hope this is enough information and I will check back in a day or so to see if anyone else has some suggestions or comments about this issue. I am using a laptop Fujitsu N6410 on Comcast.net and I have Xp Pro and 2 gig of ram, 1.66 Intel Celeron Dual Chip... usually have no issues waiting for downloads etc...

Thanks, and not complaining just frustrated with the search engine and would like to formally document my issue. (Per software testing, beta testing protocols..)

I use google instead and usually it gets me back here, and I know their servers/computers are probably gigantic in comparison!

Uploading to Tabs

Relating to uploading Tabs (and other files):

There needs to be a "Other" category in the Tuning pick list. Or maybe a "See Notes", then the author can show the tuning in the Notes section.

<s>For some reason after uploading an Mp3 file (for a Tab), it shows up twice in the Tab section. Check the following:

Old Spinning Wheel
Mr Bojangles
Suicide is Painless (MASH Theme)

When I bring up one of these tabs to Edit, from my Homepage, the Mp3 shows up only once.</s>

Deleted the Mp3 files. I was uploading a TablEdit, a PDF file, and an Mp3 for each Tab entry. And evidently the Mp3 was associating itself with both the TablEdit and PDF files, therefore showing up twice. Also the Mp3 files showed up in my Audio Archive listing. Simpler just to enter the TablEdit file alone for a tab entry.

Editing your own posts

Just sent you an email but maybe this is the proper way to deal with this matter.

I edited all my posts about the Dannick tone rings that caused such a controversy, but then it all went back to the top of the forum list after I edited everything, pouring more salt in the woulds...

Isn't there some way to change (the software) so that editing your post after you feel you may have been a bit vocal about a person or product or broken a rule not realizing it at the time, and then you have to go back in full view once again of all the other members...

I would think it would be more of a quiet change, I'll just edit this out, and that will make me feel better kind of thing....

No moderators ever told me I could go back and edit my post last week when the big controversy was going on, I thought it was a permanent record...

More people should be aware of this ability and there would be less rule violations in my opinion...

Thanks a lot,

John

Eric, It appears that all of the tabs posted prior to BHO 4.0 have your name as poster. There are a few posted after 4.0 that bear other individuals names. Do you know what happened to the original pre-4.0 posters names. I tried to look up a member that I had uploaded his Frosty Morn tab but couldn't remember his user name. Now it shows you. Please advise and thnx again.

FIXED: Weird Cross-Linking between Hangout Sites

This is weird. I am a member of "banjohangout.org" and also signed up for "resohangout.com" a sister site.

But, there is some weird cross-linking going on between fiddlehangout and flatpickershangout site too. I have NOT signed up to either site, yet take a look at this:

http://www.flatpickerhangout.com/myhangout/bio.asp?id=10207

http://www.flatpickerhangout.com/myhangout/photos2.asp?photoid=9777

...AND THIS...

http://www.fiddlehangout.com/myhangout/bio.asp?id=10207

http://www.fiddlehangout.com/myhangout/photos.asp?id=10207&albumid=639

<b><i>Note that I have NOT signed up to either of the above sites, nor have I posted anything to those sites, yet my bio and other personal information is showing up on those sites, and also other information. Photo info is showing up but not photos. My RSS feed shows data as well, all in error.</i></b>

I think this is a problem, don't you?

Page numbering quirk

I subscribed to a topic. I got this link from the BHO to click on to view the topic:

http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/160800/2/#2026601

When I clicked the link this is what happened:

When I went to the forum, and clicked on the topic there was only one page and it had 24 replies.

This is not a new problem. I've seen page numbering problems frequently when a topic shows 2 pages and in reality it only has one page...always with 24 replies.

Like many of my bug findings...it's no big deal, but since you wanted to know about bugs, you kind of asked for it. [:D][:p]

FIXED: Member search problem

Eric....didn't have this problem before the upgrade, so it must be a bug.

When I search any username I can only view the FIRST page of the results.

Here is an example. I searched the username UNCLE and got this (I am including the address, also):

http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/search.asp?method=adv&str=Advanced&username=uncle&firstname=&lastname=&email=&city=&state=&country=&experience=&submit=Go!

----------------------------

When I click "Next" or a subsequent page, I get the following error:

http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/search.asp?NAV=2&method=adv&str=Advanced&city=&state=&country=&name=&experience=&M_InterestTeach=&M_InterestHelp=&M_InterestSocial=&M_InterestJam=

-------------------------------

I understand what this is telling me to do....but I don't think that I should have to do it (add city and/or state) since the search has found those items already. I just can't view any pages after page 1.

This problem occurs no matter what name is used for the useranme.

.

I'm trying to get started with writing tab using Tabledit. When I do a search on "Tabledit Tips" I turn up a sticky topic under the "Tablature Requests" forum. But when I click the link I get:

Please note this is an archived topic, so it is locked and unable to be replied to. You may, however, start a new topic and refer to this topic with a link.

Server.MapPath() error 'ASP 0174 : 80004005'
Invalid Path Character(s)
/pages/forum/archive-viewer.asp, line 106
An invalid '/' or '\' was found in the Path parameter for the MapPath method.

When I navigat the the "Tablature Requests" forum, I don't see this sticky topic at all.

Is it possible to recover the "Tabledit Tips" sticky topic? Or should I start a new topic to solicit getting started advice for writing tabs using Tabledit?

Thanks, Scott

Topic with a MINUS 1 (-1) number of replies?

This is a screenshot:

The topic poster posted. RevSteve58 then posted and it showed -1 in the replies as above. KE posted and it went to 1 reply.

If you all up all the totals now, the number of replies is one short. No big deal, but someone else saw this, too, and mentioned it.

This is a new one, Eric.

This is the topic link (assuming the mods haven't locked and or deleted it yet). [:p][;)]

EDIT- also notice that even though RevSteve posted, it does not show him as posting, and the original poster is still listed as the last poster. He did not edit it (at least at that particular time).

3 Problems I found related to video and audio

Hey guys. I just started frequenting banjohangout, finally.

I have found these three potential issues, which may need to be addressed:

1) Video links. I have uploaded some videos, but there is no place on my personal home page to see a list of what I've posted, other than the RSS feed. It would be nice to have a link to a list of all videos I've posted in a similar way that a link to Audio MP3s is included;

2) When someone posted a comment to one of my videos, I did not receive an email at all even though this feature is checked in my preferences; this works fine for the audio files I've uploaded;

3) I have noticed that once I am logged in, I am given the ability to edit ANYONE's audio or video information. This does not make sense to me. I have not tried to actually make an edit, but shouldn't this ability be constrained only to the person who made the posting, and not any member of banjohangout (that's what comments are for after all)?

Every time I reply to a topic and on lots of topic I just read with this new HO thing, the screen has to be shifted to see things like it use to just with a too large picture?
I have made the type as small as I can see it but unless I make it way too small it won't all fit the screen, am I doing something wrong?
It use to fit just like it is?
Thanks for any help.

showing as new

Eric,
Don't know if this helps, but I have noticed that when I post at the end of a thread the topic folder stays "yellow" but when I either edit that or add a post "with quote" (getting the box with the smileys and formatting options) it posts as unread (pink).

although this new topic didn't change the color of the folder.

ah, until I "edited" it.

SUGGESTION: Spam accounts

Lately I have seen a few accounts set up with spam messages as a blog.
I'm pretty sure the moderators are cleaning them out pretty quick as the blogs don't appear in the 'Members Homepages' listing for long.

If I remember correctly there used to be an option to click 'Inappropriate Content' or some such wording on a persons blog page which doesn't seem to be there any more.

Would this be of help to the moderators if this option was available again for members to be able to flag these spam accounts as quickly as they appear?

TO FIX: Page 2 with No Messages

This may not be a bug, but the heading for the thread below shows two pages (links for 1 and 2) but Frank Ford's message is on page 1. The link to Page 2 sows no messages at this time. Might there be a counter problem?

Also , why can we no longer choose to write in small text when leaving a comment on someones page about their tune?

I know you can get to the videos via the Media Archive, but I really liked it when there was a video button right up there in front of you. I think the video section deserves it's very own button. [:)]

Some mouse over hotspots too wide

Seems the mouse over hotspots for 'Calendar', 'Hangout store' etc. are as wide as the ones for 'Forum', Members etc. although the menu isn't as wide there. So I get the popup menus although I am not over the green sidebar.

Narrow center section

Is this just my computer, or is it not bothering anyone else? With the "my hangout" stuff on the right side now, the content in the middle of the screen (threads/folders etc.) are all squeezed and narrow. It's hard for me to look at, it's honestly hurting my eyes a bit to read anything. Is this something I can play around with on my end, or is it just the look of the site now?

TO FIX: Active Topics/Unread Threads

I just logged in for the first time in a week (and the first time since the new site), and after I read one topic, there were no folders showing up as unread anymore. So I just looked at one or two threads in one folder, and everthing else showed up as unread after that. I don't know exactly when it happened, it could have been after I posted, but I hadn't looked at anything other than Playing Advice:Scruggs, and everything else after that showed up as not being new since I last logged in. I know that can't be the case!

Tab Page Layout

Hi Eric.

Just to highlight a couple of layout issues which you may already be aware as I have not checked all the messages..

On the Tab Page Menu the center table appears to be too wide forcing the right margin (myhangout menu) off the side of the screen

It's the same on this page the 'Post a New Topic' page.

Whilst this is only a minor irritation it does draw the eye and takes away the overall look of the website.

Great job..

This certainly doesn't bother me a lick, but for what it's worth, I live in India these days and it's not on the drop-down list. There's probably a good reason for that...I haven't met one person in Hyderabad who knows what a banjo is!
