<title>Out of Finishing and Ready for Final Assembly</title>
<author>eric@banjohangout.org</author>
<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/186661</link>
<description>Hey guys,

I know it's been a long time coming but the Hangout banjo is ready for final assembly. We just got finished buffing the neck and resonator today and the Keith tuners will be back from the plating shop on Tuesday. After everything is done I will post a few pics of the completed banjo, which should be by Wednesday. I hope everyone likes what they see and good luck in the drawing.

Pictures will follow soon.

Thanks,

<description>Well we've reached the finishing stage for the neck. The fretting, binding, and final shaping have been accomplished and now it's time for some color and lacquer. Take a moment and click the link below and you can take a look see at the neck before finish.

<title>Progress Report</title>
<author>eric@banjohangout.org</author>
<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/178101</link>
<description>Hello Everyone!

I'm pleased to report that the BHO Custom Banjo project is ready to move forward! As many of you know, we had a major setback here at Sullivan Banjos as our Shop Manager, who was overseeing production directly, was out of action with a recluse spider bite. He's back now and things are getting back to normal! We're shaking up our product line (More news about that will be on sullivanbanjo.com), but production on this Banjo is ready to get going again.

To recap where we left off, we had just finalized peghead and fingerboard engraving before things halted. The neck is ready for final shaping, which will probably be the next order of business.

For an overview of the Banjo and its specs, you can find the build sheet here: http://sullivanbanjo.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Custom-Order-Sheet-BHO.xls

Thanks!

<title>Week 11: Inlay Detail, Construction Begins!</title>
<author>eric@banjohangout.org</author>
<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/162652</link>
<description>Welcome back! We've taken a slight break the past week or so to get construction moving on this Banjo. Things will start off slow, since we're opting to pour a brand new tone ring and put together new inlays to build this rather than pulling parts we put made previously off the shelf. This way, we can take you through each step of the process and give you as much insight and history on how this banjo was put together as possible!

Since I intend on carrying a great deal of pictures, you can follow the construction process mainly at http://www.sullivanbanjo.com (I'll post here when I update there, of course!) I can easily show a ton of pictures and video there without linking out. Duane leveled the neck wood out today, attached the peghead ears, and did some preliminary cuts. I'll put the first slew of pictures up next week!

We've also found another detail item that we'd like your input on: Inlay Style. As I discussed in another thread in this forum, Eric has decided to go with the Vintage 35 inlay pattern (Also seen on the old Thunderbolt line) due to legal issues... We think you'll like it, anyhow, and it'll go well with the rest of the Banjo. We have two styles of this inlay, however, and we'll use whichever you prefer.

<description>I've followed this closely, read all the input, and voted on every facet
How did I miss the fret board and peg head inlay question? Or did I?

<title>An introduction to this project...</title>
<author>eric@banjohangout.org</author>
<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/topic/155158</link>
<description>Hi Everyone,

I've been talking to Eric Sullivan over at First Quality Music/Sullivan Banjo, and he had the marvelous idea of collaborating with the BHO community to build a sweet custom banjo.

The BHO has had a great relationship with FQMS for years--in fact, FQMS was the first company to ever contact me about helping to sponsor the site--back when I hadn't even thought about such things! They've been nothing but supportive, and this is just another example of a very cool, mutually-beneficial idea from those Sullivan boys.

You'll be hearing from Travis Cook, and possibly other folks at FQMS, as this project progresses.

Our goal here is to let members discuss and vote the parts/construction of a 5-string bluegrass banjo. Once everything has been nailed down, the folks at FQMS will build the banjo, and we'll give it away on the Banjo Hangout. How cool is that?

We'll probably take a week or so to discuss the project, then starting around August 24th we'll start posting topics and polls like &quot; What sorta tailpiece should this baby have?&quot; and go from there.

Onward and upward!
