<itunes:summary>The band asked me to work this one up and to be honest it's a million miles away from my usual style.

I tried to work it up in 'open G' tuning; then changed my mind and used 'open D' tuning, then decided I wanted a low drone so started again in 'open C' capoed up to D.

It's a beautiful tune and I think i've done it justice, i'm quite proud of this one, hope y'all like it.

I would like to thank my beautiful mother Colleen Cooper, for a fantastic job working the recording software and all the support whilst I was working up the tune. Thanks Mum!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:author>Turlough Carolan</itunes:author>
<author>Turlough Carolan</author>
<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music.asp?ID=4317</link>
<itunes:summary>The &amp;#34clairseach&amp;#34 or Irish harp was tuned diatonically and had metal wire for strings, usually made of brass, silver, gold or a silver-gold alloy! This classic piece by the blind harper Carolan (1670-1738) translates easily to contemporary Celtic 5-string banjo. It&amp;#39s a popular session tune, played with reverence for the last of the Irish harper-composers. Backing on nylon-string guitar is Gabriel Donohue (Athenry) and on bodhran is Robbie Walsh (Dublin - 2008 All-Ireland Fleadh Champion). Notice the crisp metallic tone of the banjo, which was achieved by using a steel violin mute on the bridge, giving the G-tuned banjo a harp-like quality recalling the clairseach. With gratitude to Mel Bay for letting me upload this here, another sample from my first book/CD, Complete Book of Irish &amp; Celtic 5-String Banjo - find it here: http://www.melbay.com/product.asp?ProductID=95759BCD</itunes:summary>

<title>'The Mason's Apron' - Irish reel</title>
<itunes:author>Tom Hanway</itunes:author>

<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music.asp?ID=4317</link>
<itunes:summary>This flying three-part reel was made famous by Dubliners&amp;#39 tenor banjoist Barney McKenna. On the swinging acoustic is guitar maestro Gabriel Donohue from Athenry, and on steady bodhran is Robbie Walsh from Dublin. Notice all the fancy triplets and ornamentation in this tune. The banjo is way out front in the mix. Believe it or not, we&amp;#39re holding back the tempo, because this is an instructional CD for beginners and intermediate as well as advanced players. This tune goes well with &amp;#39Devil&amp;#39s Dream&amp;#39. With gratitude to Mel Bay for letting me upload this here, another sample from my first book/CD, Complete Book of Irish &amp; Celtic 5-String Banjo - find it here: http://www.melbay.com/product.asp?ProductID=95759BCD</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>I posted this in response to someone looking for an easy, Scruggs-style version of the tune. (It was tab they were looking for, but I don&amp;#39t have any tab for this tune, so I posted an audio.)

Some folks don&amp;#39t like to capo up to 7, but in this case, I don&amp;#39t think it sounds too high. It&amp;#39s just a simple, straight rendition of the tune.

My wife, Lynn, is on bass and I&amp;#39m on banjo and guitar.

<itunes:summary>The popular march used by the 7th Cavalry Regiment going back to General Custer is also a traditional Limerick jig. At a traditional session, it could lead into another tune, which is why it seems to be hanging in the air at the end. On bodhran is Dubliner Robbie Walsh, now the 2008 All-Ireland Fleadh Champion, and on guitar is Gabriel Donohue from Athenry. With gratitude to Mel Bay for letting me upload this here, another sample from my first book/CD, Complete Book of Irish &amp; Celtic 5-String Banjo - find it here: http://www.melbay.com/product.asp?ProductID=95759BCD</itunes:summary>
