<itunes:summary>This is a fiddle tune I first learned in Memphis, TN about 25 years ago, and pull it out of the hat from time to time. It also goes by other names such as &amp;#34Big Sandy River&amp;#34 and other similar variations. I just came across this recording in some unlabeled CDs of me picking. I am unsure when I recorded this, but I think it was probably in 2008 or 2009. This is just me picking banjo, and is my version of this cool fiddle tune. Enjoy :)</itunes:summary>

<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music.asp?ID=13171</link>
<itunes:summary>This is a beautiful traditional fiddle tune that was recorded in March 2011 at (now defunct) band practice. The lineup is: Me (on my custom top-tension banjo), Shane Lail on guitar, Keith Cole on upright bass, David Heavner on mandolin, and George Giddons on fiddle. We pulled this tune out of the air and this was the 2nd take on trying to work it up. Since it had been years since I dusted this tune off, I am a little rusty at the beginning, then it comes back to me by the end of the recording, where I am dropping in some note-for-note harmony on banjo. Recorded on a cheap digital voice recorder, so it&amp;#39s a tad hot. This is a cool snapshot of the organic process of how tunes are worked up in a band. And, a slightly different arrangement of this cool old fiddle tune. Enjoy!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:author>banjoy</itunes:author>

<link>http://www.banjohangout.org/myhangout/music.asp?ID=13171</link>
<itunes:summary>About 4 or 5 years ago a friend of mine in Knoxville, Kent Bilbry, bought an 8-track digital recorder and I spent a day or two over there laying down about 20 raw tunes, just banjo and a tick track, so he could learn how to use his new machine. A few of these &amp;#34basement&amp;#34 recordings are already posted to my BHO home page, but just this weekend (January 14th 2012) I learned that Kent had gone on and re-worked several of those tunes years ago, and I was surprised and delighted to hear many of these tunes I had totally forgotten about. This is one of those tunes I have almost forgotten knowing, and had also completely forgotten that I had worked up a twin banjo part for it. You know, if you don&amp;#39t use it, you lose it!! So it was great to hear this again, and I wanted to share this tune here. It was fun.

On this cut, I overdubbed a 2nd banjo track. All this was done in one take each. Kent then later added bass, mandolin chops and rhythym guitar to it and mixed down what I&amp;#39m posting here.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>My 4yo daughter has one of those electric mini pianos. I wanted to impress her a bit with my playing and also to practice some transcription skills and thus decided to arrange her favourite preset tune for banjo. It seemed perfect for some melodic banjo as it clearly seemed to be a fiddle melody. It also seemed so familiar but I didn't know the name. I asked a colleague who is a first violinist for a symphony orchestra and he thought it was a Scottish dance but didn't know the name either. Try googling a melody... Anyway, I eventually found out that the tune was called &quot;Sailor's Hornpipe&quot; or &quot; The College Hornpipe&quot; and in fact is a very popular fiddle tune. I guess I should feel stupid for not knowing...

I made this arrangement some time in August and wanted to make this recording and arrangement a little project for my first banjo anniversary as I got my banjo on August 26, 2010. Unfortunately I didn't find the time to record it so I'm uploading this now two months late. The good thing about it is that I have had a lot of time to practice this tune so I'm quite content with the recording. I only had to play it a few times until I was mostly happy with the cut.

The tablature to the recording is in my tab section.
