<itunes:summary>This is another version of this cool tune written by Gene Lockhart and Ernest Seitz and made popular by the likes of Les Paul. This version was recorded in a studio and this track is a raw comp of tracks recorded before I abandoned the project. To my ear there were far too many musical and technical issues to resolve to make it work pursuing. But, this offers a different slant on this tune. The lineup on this version are: Frank Eastes, banjo; Brandon Turner, guitar. ALSO CHECK OUT the other versions of this tune I have uploaded. (On this cut I am playing my Nechville Athena.) Enjoy.</itunes:summary>

I had to edit out a choice word because this is a family board LOL, but the edit seems almost seamless :0 ... Enjoy.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This is a home recording of band working up this cool song by Doyle Lawson, recorded in March 2011 at (now defunct) band practice. The lineup is: Me (on my custom top-tension banjo) and harmony vocal, Shane Lail on guitar and harmony vocal, Keith Cole on upright bass, David Heavner on mandolin and singing lead vocal, and George Giddons on fiddle. Recorded on a cheap digital voice recorder, so it&#39s a tad hot. The baritone part I&#39m singing is near the upper limits of my range but I hit it anyway LOL. At the end of the recording you can hear us working up on-the-fly how it should end. This is another cool snapshot of the organic process of how tunes are worked up in a band.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Okay, this is the last in this series of posts from this recording session...

This is a tune which I posted to BHO well over two years ago, as an instrumental take on this cool song by John Hartford.

About 4 or 5 years ago a friend of mine in Knoxville, Kent Bilbry, bought an 8-track digital recorder and I spent a day or two over there laying down about 20 raw tunes, just banjo and a tick track, so he could learn how to use his new machine. Steam Powered Aeroplane was one of the tunes I laid down.

At that time, Kent gave me a rough CD of several tunes I had laid down -- and I have posted the mix he had done at that time, which was an instrument-only version. I didn't know until this weekend (Jan 14, 2012) that he had gone on to rework some of the tracks, and he had added the vocals to this tune.

This started only as me picking without a tick track on this cut (banjo only), then I overdubbed a 2nd banjo part and later on Kent added some bass, mandolin, and lead vocal. It helps flesh out the recording a lot nicer, although it ain't half bad as an instrumental.

This was a treat for me to hear a few days ago for the first time, I hope it is a treat for you too. Enjoy.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This is another version of this cool tune written by Gene Lockhart and Ernest Seitz and made popular by the likes of Les Paul. This was recorded about 4-5 years ago when a friend of mine in Knoxville, Kent Bilbry, bought an 8-track digital recorder and I spent a day or two over there laying down about 20 raw tunes.

This started as me on banjo playing to a tick track in one take then I overdubbed a 2nd banjo part and later on Kent added some bass, mandolin, and guitar. My part was done without edits in one pass, so there may be a few spots here and there but it is what it is. For me, it was a lot of fun to do it and to heard it again, about 5 years later, for the first time...

This tune is in the key of C, and I play the 2nd chord as an A minor. Many folks play the 2nd chord as a C-diminished, which to my ear seems out of character to the tune, so I rarely play it that way. Either way, it's still a cool tune.

Enjoy.</itunes:summary>

The first time I heard it I literally almost fell off my chair laughing. This song is one of 2 GC tunes I decided cover in my live banjo set because people I&#39ve played it for always get such a kick out of it. So I made this recording as backing tracks. You of course get the banjo and lead vocal tracks here. Since this is ROMANTIC chicken pluckin&#39, I&#39ve tried to really schmaltz it up, especially the vocals.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This is a tune I write which I have already posted to BHO in two other versions (twin banjos, alone, and an unfinished studio track). This recording I'm posting here is another, cooler, extended version of that tune, a recording I had all but forgotten about. About 4 or 5 years ago a friend of mine in Knoxville, Kent Bilbry, bought an 8-track digital recorder and I spent a day or two over there laying down about 20 raw tunes, just banjo and a tick track, so he could learn how to use his new machine. Blue's Kokopelli was one of the tunes I laid down a couple of different ways... At that time, Kent gave me a rough CD of several tunes I had laid down -- but I didn't know until this weekend (Jan 14, 2012) that he had gone on to rework some of the tracks. I remember hearing this mix about 5 years ago but had all but forgotten it. I got this copy yesterday, and it's a really cool extended version of this real moody tune. This started only as me picking banjo to a tick track, then I overdubbed a 2nd banjo part to add rhythm and color. Then later on Kent added some bass, mandolin chops, and a little guitar. This take on it is pretty long ... it's nearly 7 minutes! It's happy enough for the first half, then the weeds get kinda thick. I was really into the groove apparently LOL. Enjoy the journey :) ©Frank Eastes

There is also some lead guitar diddling on one track by local guitar phenom Brandon Turner. Take it for what it is: a snapshot of an unfinished project. ©Wes Wyatt and Doug Trammel. The lineup is: Me (on my custom top-tension banjo) and harmony vocal, Shane Lail on guitar and lead vocal, Keith Cole on upright bass, David Heavner on mandolin, and George Giddons on fiddle and harmony vocal. <itunes:summary>This is another Fleck tune I love. Now go easy on me. I had just purchased the tab a month before this recording (yeah I know, the tab came out 20 years go, I&#39m a little slow). I&#39m uploading two versions of this cool tune. This was recorded in March 2011. Unfortunately, this band split up before the first gig but we&#39re all in contact with each other and there is always talk.... The lineup is: Me (on my custom top-tension banjo), Shane Lail on guitar, Keith Cole on upright bass. David Heavner on mandolin, and George (cannot remember last name) on fiddle. Also check out the living room version I&#39ve uploaded... Enjoy!</itunes:summary>

In this version I completely butcher the 2nd break but hey, the tune must go on LOL. This was recorded in April 2011. Me with my Nechville Athena, and Tyler Balkind on his Santa Cruz dreadnought. It&#39s funny how I&#39m trying to explain the ending to Tyler. I listen to it now and I&#39m confused hahahaha. Also check out the band practice version I&#39ve uploaded... I would recommend these DVD&#39s to anyone who is teaching themselves to play the banjo. This was recorded after 8 months of playing the banjo and it is the exact version she teaches. No crazy variations in it or anything like that, but still a pretty cool version!</itunes:summary>
