This hole-in-the-wall music shop just north of the University District in Seattle is one of the hidden gems of the Northwest folk music scene. Dusty Strings might be the mecca for acoustic instruments in Seattle, but the Folkstore is where the locals in the know go. Stu Herrick runs the place, and I can tell you one thing, you'll probably never see him on the Hangout, as he doesn't correspond by e-mail or really buy into technology at all from what I've seen. But if you want to buy a new or used banjo, mandolin, Martin guitar, or just need some work done on your instrument, Stu's the man to see. He's got picks, books, strings, LPs and some CDs, and offers layaway on all new instruments. If you are at all interested in an acoustic fretted instrument, beginner or advanced and are in the Seattle area, check it out for sure. www.folkstoreseattle.com
