I found a book that us musically challenged banjo pickers can use. It is written for clawhammer in tab and shows learics and melody. The CD that accompanys the book goes through the basic old time clawhammer style banjo picking for the songs in the book and is very informative and doesn't try to snow you under This is the first book in along time that I think is worth the money

Wonderful book. I've been playing now for almost 11 months and just got this book. For a beginner this book is perfect and is all you need in my opinion. I wish I had it from the beginning. The cd that comes with it really helps you to hear the tune the way it should be played. The arrangements are easy, but they sound nice too and leave room for you to add as you get better. The book has so much information in it that I am still learning many things even after playing almost a year. Great book. Go buy it. The book has been out for over 30 years and people still love it. I have the new and improved version (not sure what changed).

Wayne Erbsen's book is a great way to start off on the banjo. His plain speakin' will have you rappin' and frailin' the banjo in no time flat. The greatest asset of this book is that it teaches you how to play while teachin' you to go ahead and think for yerself some. Also, there are plenty of great ol' mountain tunes included and it teaches you how to play in every tuning with the scales included. Builds a good foundation for you to go ahead and explore the world of clawhammer banjo. Nice!
