I strongly recommend this book to all beginners. As the previous reviewer pointed out, it breaks down classic bluegrass songs into there basic melody notes. It also goes over the basic rolls. You practice the rolls and learn the left hand positions then put the two together. This makes for very clean tabs and gives you the freedom to add whatever rolls you want. Progress from seemingly unsong like sounds to identifiable music with a bluegrass feel is fairly quick and builds a good foundation for learning different licks that you can substitute in if the urge grabs you. |

This is probably the ultimate beginners guide for how to play scruggs style. You start out with a simple melody line which you later can add the, ice cold licks, the cool licks, the warm licks, the hot licks and in the end the RED HOT LICKS.
This is a little book with a great layout. I think everybody from 5 years to 110 with some reading skills and a CD player can learn to play bluegrass banjo with this book. |
