A great book for the complete beginner. If you already what style of banjo playing you want to learn then maybe this isn't the best book - but if you want a basic introduction to the many and varies ways of getting music from a banjo then buy it. Bluegrass, blues, classical, frailing, 'Seeger style' are all introduced along with some music theory, banjo history etc.
Some of the content is a bit dated and the presentation is 'quirky' to say the least but overall a good buy. |

This is a timeless classic as the grand ol' man of the folk banjo teaches his tips and techniques on the 5-string banjo and introduces the world to the hybrid Seeger style technique. Although not best for the absolute beginner many frailers have began from this text. The bible of folk banjo and a must read for all banjo-ists! |
