Sound

I don't know much about the company behind this banjo (I'd be grateful for any information!) but the Folk Model that I purchased never ceases to please me. It is a long neck (E tuning, additional 3 frets) with a full sound. The sound is deep, but not as bright as I wish, and it loses some luster when I capo it at the 3rd fret to play in G.

Setup

I believe that this banjo was manufactured in the sixties or seventies (I'm not sure) and has doubtlessly undergone many modifications. It has a high action and it is easy to change the head. . . I bought it as an openback model.

Appearance

My banjo is very attractive. The ebony wood fades into a more rosy color in the middle of the neck, then goes to deep black again when it meets the head. The neck is lined with what appears to be ivory, and inlayed at the 3, 5, 7. . . frets with a pearl dot. The tuning pegs (I suspect not original) are large, silver. BACON is stamped in a the same ivory color. It is simple, and very pretty.

Reliability

I have owned this banjo for two years and it has not let me down. The finish is of the highest quality. . . the only complaint I have is that the ivory runners are falling off at the ends. (I glued them)

Customer Service

I have never found a Bacon website, flyer, or telephone number, and have never been able to contact the company directly. I give it the one rating not because the C S is terrible, but because I have never contacted it. Too bad I can not give it a '?' rating.

Components

As I said, my own model is very modified. . . but so far the only components problem I can find is the ivory (I don;t know the proper word) running boards.

Overall Comments

I probably would recomend this banjo to others. . . but not if they can get along with a G banjo. I myself am forced to play a lot of Eb songs in a jazz band, and this banjo makes it easier. I love my Folk Model, and I feel I paid a fair price for it. It is beautiful, and fun to play.
