This is a fantastic company in every way. They sell music instruction books, CD’s and videos, as well as downloadable lessons. About a year ago I ordered 2 downloadable banjo lessons (which includes the instruction video, tab and audio in 2 or more speeds) and my computer decided it did not want to cooperate in saving the material. Geoff sent not one, but 3 different downloads, so that I could finally get the songs and instruction saved.
Just this past Wed. I ordered a banjo book with 2 CD’s from him via snail mail and couldn’t believe it when they arrived today—just two days later! Plus, today, because I had emailed him a question when I placed my book/CD order, Geoff sent 5 different emails with various tips I needed for my practice—all for FREE!!!! I’m still in shock.
I’ve bought from many banjo music dealers and never experienced this kind of service! I’m not saying Geoff will have the time to do this kind of stuff always, because he is in business and must get his work done, but I know he will do his very best. This is one of those old-fashioned kind of businesses that believes the customer is important! You don’t see many of these any more—give him a try. Great books, CD’s, etc., and downloadable, inexpensive, understandable, instruction.

They are a family run business. Their prices and customer service is personal and friendly, but they know next to nothing about banjos. I bought a defective Recording King banjo from them which I had to return across the Atlantic. They returned the value of the banjo, but I lost $200 shipping expenses which they refused to cover. If it was me just wanting an other banjo, I could understand, but this specific banjo should never have passed factory QC, importer QC or store QC.

My advice: Buy from someone who knows what a banjo is and get a proper set-up.

i agree with the previous comment on customer service. the site is great they offer a lot of great deals and also have nice selections. the only problem i have is with the customer service. live chat is alright but they like to take their time answering you. ive called them many times but always got directed to the machine. left a message and never got a call back. big thumbs down on the customer service but aside from that, timely shipment cheap prices and nice layout

I can't think of a better place to buy a new Huber than directly from Huber Banjos. I recently purchased my second Huber from available stock in Steve's shop. It was a Berkshire that Steve tweaked and set up perfectly before shipping. One huge advantage to buying directly from Steve is that the banjo has been given the optimal set-up by Steve just prior to shipping. This insures your banjo will arrive sounding it's absolute best. One online music store in Nashville told me they would loosen the head tension before shipping and therefore effectively negate the set up done by Steve. Steve and Jim were great to do business with. Even though Steve is monumentally busy, he had time to field several different phone calls from me and never made me feel rushed or as though he didn't have time to talk. Steve even recorded mp3 samples of two of the banjos in his shop for me to listen to when I was trying to decide between two models. Sweet! Even though this wasn't a custom order, I will most definitely be back to Huber banjos for my next Huber. Buying directly from Huber banjos was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend checking Steve's inventory first. If I could, I would rate them an 11 out of 10!!!!

Acoustic Vibes Music in Tempe, AZ is a great place to purchase a high end musical instrument! Although they have a showroom for customers to visit, I used their online store and found their site to be quite easy to navigate. First of all, whomever does the photography of the instruments for display on the internet has an artistic eye because the pictures are quite elegant and dramatic. I found several pictures of the banjos I was considering. Unlike some larger online stores that may use stock photos, Acoustic Vibes uses only pictures of the actual instrument available for purchase. Jeff was extremely helpful in answering all my questions and in picking for me over the phone so I could hear banjos I was considering. I got a terrific price on an outstanding Huber banjo, the shipping was incredibly fast and even after the deal, Jeff sent me out three sets of Huber strings free! Oh, by the way, the shipping was also free! Customer service is definitely a priority at Acoustic Vibes Music. I would recommend them to anybody considering a new instrument!

This hole-in-the-wall music shop just north of the University District in Seattle is one of the hidden gems of the Northwest folk music scene. Dusty Strings might be the mecca for acoustic instruments in Seattle, but the Folkstore is where the locals in the know go. Stu Herrick runs the place, and I can tell you one thing, you'll probably never see him on the Hangout, as he doesn't correspond by e-mail or really buy into technology at all from what I've seen. But if you want to buy a new or used banjo, mandolin, Martin guitar, or just need some work done on your instrument, Stu's the man to see. He's got picks, books, strings, LPs and some CDs, and offers layaway on all new instruments. If you are at all interested in an acoustic fretted instrument, beginner or advanced and are in the Seattle area, check it out for sure. www.folkstoreseattle.com

The Instrument Alley website looks 1st rate and their prices seem very good. I ordered a new banjo and a starter set from them and I received the banjo 5 days later (shipped straight from the factory where it was put together, but not set up). I didn't receive the rest of the parts and pieces until 2 weeks later. Now I understand about backordered items, but my rating of them is based on their lack of customer service. They never answered their telephone, never returned an e-mail, and only once returned a phone message. If they would just pay more attention to their lines of communication it would really cut down on irritated customers.

Ordered Deering Maple Blossom banjo. The price was very good and email questions were answered quickly. I was kept up to date on the status as this banjo was not in stock and had to be ordered from Deering. I was very pleased with everything about this order and would definitely suggest checking Instrumentalley.com out.

The Acoustic Musician in Sandy Utah has got to be the funnest place in the valley. I've been to the other stores around and they are fine but there is a difference. Every time I enter the store Mike the owner greets me by name and makes me feel like one of his cherished personal friends. The atmosphere is friendly and casual and all are welcome to come and pick and hang out and discuss all things bluegrass or other genres if your so inclined. Everything is out and available to try out with no pressure or sales person hanging over your shoulder.
Every Thursday there is a bluegrass jam with beginners to pros showing up for a good time and sharing ideas and licks. I've never been excluded for my inexperience and I always get positive comments, even when I know they aren't deserved.
The store just moved and expanded so there is more to enjoy and the coffee is always hot and ready.
I take lessons there and I have my choice of some of the best pickers in the state to learn from. All of them are state picking champions.
If you ever find yourself in Utah and don't stop by The Acoustic Musician you'll have missed one of our great landmarks.

Located in Black Mountain, NC., I stop in there with every visit from my native California. Always a very helpful and courteous staff (especially Stephanie)
and loads of acoustic instruments of different price points; you can sit and try them all to your heart's content. Loads of accessories, books, and CDs, too.

After my last review of this company I thought that maybe I was a little harsh so I gave them a second chance.
Well, after placing a second order it took them 7 days to actually ship the IN STOCK items. On their website they say to expect you order in 7 to 10 business days but they fail to tell you that it actually takes them at least 7 days to actually ship the item which doubles the shipping time.
Well, I should have learned from the first order but you be sure there won't be a third order from there!!

I highly recommend banjohut.com. I originally ordered a Morgan Monroe Cascade from banjohut.com. It arrived well setup but had some cosmetic flaws. Banjohut.com immediately sent me a replacement at no cost. Unfortunately, the replacment was damaged during shipping. When I called to get another replacement, banjohut.com gave me a deal on an even better banjo (Recording King RK-R80). All of the the replacements were shipped at no cost to me and the returns were shipped back at no cost to me. All three of the banjos were well setup. In summary, the setup and customer service at banjohut.com are excellent and I highly recommend them.

Janet Davis Music is fabulous! I ordered when their area had a major ice storm, but I still received my banjo and accessories faster than I have with Musician's Friend. My Banjo was set up perfectly and in spanky new shape. It was also very well packed for shipping. I'd been looking for a certain guitar, and decided to order from them, as well. All in all, an excellent experience. They'll be first on my list of sellers if they have what I need.
