I was not surprised to see that someone else had also built a banjo with a tambourine body. What surprised me was that he had patented the design. So I sent him an e-mail, to find out if he considered my instrument to be infringing on his patent. Got no answer. As I told the drummer whose scrap-lumber drum inspired the "Squared Eel": On MY home planet, "drum" is a word which means "Banjo that somebody was too lazy to put a neck on".
