Jim,
I have the utmost respect for what you do. I passed on that path when I was younger and got out of the coal fields of Pike County, Kentucky many years ago, and I am glad I did. It’s a hard life with long, often uncertain hours underground.
I look forward to our next visit, so be safe … I would love to do some more pickin’ with you!

Jim ,,i have the greatest respect for you and other miner's ..I spent nearly 30 years around the mines in Boone co Wv ..No i didnt work them ,,i was a Pepsi salesman and made my living from the miner's ..Still have a lot of friends in the mine's ..I pray you stay safe ..All great picture's ,,the ones are great of the babies . |

I've been more than a few coal mines (selling belt fasteners, belt cutters, etc.,), but all out west where the seams are reasonably high, and never day-in-day-out like you have to do. Best of luck and may you enjoy your eventual retirement, as I am now doing. |

ouch! do they get that coal dust covered in the strip pit mines too? Over in western Ky...there is some pretty big strip pits over near where my family lives.....especially down in Muhlenberg County Ky. |
