I think your idea to scan difficult sections of music is great! You have shown people a great way of using the banjo hangout!
(I would also love to know how to do this pull off and I have a few of my difficult areas scanned as well! Yes, I got the idea from you and I hope you do not mind?)

Howdy,
I think that this type of open string pull-off is accomplished using a free finger in your left hand to pluck the open string. Not easy to work into your style but very effective sound. Kind of an advanced clawhammer technique.
