The song was written for show of Civil War music I toured in 2002 and 2003. It is "saying good-bye to my sweeheart and marching off to war" song from a Scottish FIGHTING TIGERS OF IRELAND album, released in 2004.

This very old melody has served for a number of songs over the generations. This track was recorded for use in the sound track of a Lone Chimney Film made for PBS/History Channel markets. The film is called BLACK FLAG and follows the life of the Bushwhackers during the US Civil War. The track is included on the EP release, AIN'T NO GOIN' BACK. http://cdbaby.com/cd/jedmarum8

A recording from a live concert. Honest Pat Murpy as the song is also frequently called, is a song from the era of the American Civil War, made popular by David Kincaid. The song celebrate the Irish immigrant's participation for the Union and lists their motivations for joining the fight.

Using an old, well known Irish melody I retold the true story of a runaway slave who worked on a New Bedford Whaler called the Charles W Morgan. This recording is from my MILES FROM HOME album, released in 2004.
