This is a Bela Fleck arrangement I really like that that I found in a tab on the BHO transcribed and TablEdited by Hans Holzherr and edited by Jack R. Baker. I have only heard the tab and have never actually heard Fleck’s version, which was on the album Anchored to the Shore by Tasty Licks. I’ve been working on this off and on for longer than forever, and seeing this “Post-a-thon” encouraged me to get back to it and try to get it to a recognizable state for submission. Full disclosure, I recorded each break separately (several takes each) and appended them in Audacity; no way at this point could I remember the whole thing well enough to do it at once.

Was tuned in double C while perusing this thread so I thought, why not give it a try. My take is a bit different and I'm wondering if I didn't drift into a different song, LOL. So, here's another submission from the wannabee gallery.

I always thought the Kingston Trio's take on this old folk song would make a good sawmill claw tune. I think it does but would sound a lot better if someone without these rusty pipes were singing. Had to electronically capo down 3 half-steps to even approach a range that would not be complete screeching.

I was wondering if this could be played with D tuners only, kinda like Fleck did on Katmandu. Well, I'm not sure whether it could, or if possible whether I could, and I don't have D tuners anyway, so then I wondered how am I gonna bring something different to the table with all of the great previous posts. So, I went the minimalist route - left hand only, just flinging it all the way. A little weird, but interesting, maybe.

Earlier this month Ed Ronshausen posted an mp3 he did of a Gordon Lightfoot song which I commented on. I mentioned that I used to play some of GL’s tunes with a friend and Ed mentioned he’d like to hear a banjo version of "Cotton Jenny” which was one of those we did. So I put together a quick recording to give him some idea of what I sort of remember doing with it. It is basically backup throughout so if anyone would care to make suggestions on improving the backup I’d appreciate it.

Trying to participate in some of the recent "post-a-thons" and finally got around to recording a few. As a variation I threw in something from my own similar tune so that's why I renamed it.

My repertoire is quite limited so these post-a thons are helping me learn new songs. Here's my try.

Finished composing this tune recently so I thought I’d post it. I added a second banjo track as backup and also a guitar track to get a little base going. Still trying to figure out Audacity, mixing, all of that stuff so it’s not as clear as I’d hoped.

So, finally a post-a-thon for a song I know and have played. Now I have no excuses for a sub-par performance. Here’s my sometimes whimsical attempt in sawmill.

Probably my favorite BG Gospel song. Just playing around with Audacity today and wondered how this might work out. Basically the same arrangement as the BGA Band but I added a banjo backing track (for mandatory banjo content). :>)

I just posted a review of Mike’s Banjo Mute which I have been using for several months and works well. I mentioned in the review that although the sound of the banjo is different and has more sustain / less decay, I still like the tones it produces and the tune I’m posting just kind of almost wrote itself as I was practicing. It needed a name so the obvious one stood out – Muted Melody. Hope you like it and it gives you an idea of how the mute affects the sound.

I submitted this song to Mike Iverson's "Clawhammer Challenge" topic on his site, which asked for a tune from Crosby, Stills, Nash or Young's either solo work or groups they were in. Played in my Ersatz Clawhammer style.

Thought I'd take a stab at this. Certainly took liberties with the melody and I put a different cadence to it. Sort of sounds Reelish or Jigish or one of those types, I think.

Very late "post-a-thon" submission. A buddy and I used to make a medley of these two tunes that fit together. I suspect Buffalo Springfield may have gotten their opening notes from the trad tune. Starts and ends with with Salt Creek with GASG in the middle, so, this is really a Salt Creek Sandwich.

Was revisiting some D tuning tunes lately and I thought I try to post at least a recognizable version of one of my favorite Fleck straight BG tunes.

Little late to this thread. ive already sent my likes and comments to the previous posters so I'll just say they were all great and varied. I really like this tune so I thought I'd give her a go in Double C capoed at 2.

Another of one of my favorite Fleck straight BG tunes. I don't have D Tuners so I compensated the best I could with HO / PO/ Slides. Also don't have Bela's chops so it's way slower and has the occasional (gross understatement) flub, but at least it's at a recognizable stage.

I submitted this song to Mike Iverson's "Clawhammer Challenge" topic on his site.. Thanks to Hankulator's recent video submission of his group's bluegrass version for giving me the inspiration to do my version. This one is shortened from the full version I posted to Mike's site so as not to burden anyone listening here with four minutes of my plaintive howling.
