Barney McKenna Passing Of the Great Irish Tenor Banjoist Pioneer (The Dubliners)
Friday, April 06, 2012 @7:08:55 AM
GOODBYE FOR NOW BARNEY It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Irelands most renowned banjo player Barney McKenna....Have met the man several times over the years....a very generous man...alot of great stories when he occasionaly phoned me and I him. last time I spoke face to face was at the Longford Ba...njo Festival when he attended an Earl Scruggs concert. Two pioneers of different what are today most popular banjo styles. in the Irish traditional and American bluegrass genres nad ironically, Earl passed away only a week before Barney.....a great banjo festival is eminent in heaven....or possibly "Banjoists Green" where banjoists go if they don't go to hell !!!! (Fiddlers Green) Goodbye for now Barney...will see you in the future for a few!
I have a few great stories and memories of Barney.....Will share soon

Yes, he was a fantastic banjo player, and one who like to make fun on the stage. - Two year ago, we heard The Dublineers in the Music House in Aarhus. A great concert. - We play a lot of Dubliners songs ourselves. They are very popular in Denmark. Barney will be missed. The Danish public loved him. Torben |
