Live at The Sylvia Theater!
Wednesday, December 23, 2009 @10:26:29 AM
After weeks of late nights, practice and prep for the big show, Saturday night I took the stage with an amazing group of talented musicicans and singers for a 2 hour session at the historic Sylvia Theater in York, SC. Gal Friday Band is a trio of sisters with power-packed vocals and sweet harmonies, backed by a full-blown rhythm section including drums, keys, electric and acoustic, harmonica, and of course...BANJO! This was my first real show with the gang and what a blast it was.
We did such a diverse mix of music from rock and country to gospel and bluegrass. Never thought I'd be playing LONG TRAIN RUNNIN' (yep, that one from the Doobie Brothers...the LINK to audio/video is below) on the BANJO. BUt it brought the house down. Posting a few pix in the SYLVIA THEATER album if you'd like a look. I played 3 different banjos; my Deering Goodtime (tuned to Double C...Thanks Sammy), Deering Terry Baucom (tuned down to open E) and my 1974 Gibson RB 250 for all the G-REAT tunes that make banjos and banjo players happy. The promoter called it "rockin' banjo" and that's pretty cool...audio & video is now posted on You Tube.
Making music is something special. But making music LIVE ONSTAGE with friends and true professionals for an appreciative audience is rare indeed. Another Great BANJO DAY!

Congratulations Michael!
It sounds like you all had a great time and made some great music. I wish we had some audio to go with those pictures.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Larry
