2009 Traditional Folk Album of the Year

Wednesday, September 02, 2009 @6:41:48 AM

This is an update to my last Blog Entry:

My album of Civil War music, CROSS OVER THE RIVER has won the Traditional Folk Album of the Year Award and my song, COME BACK KATY came in 6th place, also in the Traditional Folk category - in the 2009 Just Plain Folks (JP Folk) Music Awards. Woo Hoo!

I am thrilled, surprised and honored - all at once! Confederate history and Civil War music aren't exactly "mainstream" and that's what this album is all about - BUT I don't look the gift horse in the mouth. I am pleased and grateful for the honors.

The song and the album feature a lot of banjo and some banjola.

Two tracks from this album were used in the Lone Chimney Films production, Bloody Dawn - which played in theaters in 2008 and on PBS stations this season.

JP Folk Music Awards is by far the largest music award program in the world. The 2009 JP Folk Music Awards judged over 42,000 albums and 560,000 songs in various categories.

At the risk of sounding like a salesman; you can hear samples from the album here:

It's on iTunes and all of the MP3 servers.

Congratulations.  As an ancient philosopher once said, "Who tooteth not his own horn, the same shall not be tooted."

Way to go!

WTG Jed!
Now it's just a matter of time until those Grammy people come around.

Best wishes and congrats,
Den
